We are seeking a skilled and experienced
Mechanical Estimator to join our Preconstruction team in Richmond, Virginia. This role is ideal for professionals with a strong background in mechanical systems and field operations who are ready to apply their expertise in estimating HVAC and plumbing systems for complex commercial and industrial projects. You will play a key role in developing accurate, competitive, and strategic cost proposals for projects including hospitals, high-rises, government buildings, data centers, and universities.

A day in the life:- Analyze construction documents, specifications, and drawings to determine project scope and requirements.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for HVAC, sheet metal, plumbing, and piping systems.
- Collaborate with project managers, field operations, and design teams to ensure alignment between estimates and execution strategies.
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure competitive pricing and scope coverage.
- Contribute to conceptual and design-phase budgeting efforts.
- Identify value engineering opportunities that enhance project value and reduce costs.
- Support proposal development and client presentations with technical and cost-related insights.
You should have:- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Construction, or Construction Engineering Management
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical estimating, with a strong understanding of HVAC and plumbing systems.
- Prior field operations experience in mechanical construction is preferred.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with a detail-oriented approach.
- Familiarity with estimating software, such as Autobid, and Microsoft Excel for cost modeling and analysis.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments.
This position is primarily office-based, but occasional travel may be required to visit job sites, vendor facilities, and client offices.
