Position Summary

Rice University has a unique and exciting opportunity for a collaborative individual with exceptional interpersonal and analytical skills to become the Senior Equal Opportunity Specialist (SEOS). The next SEOS is solutions-oriented, who takes a proactive approach to building an inclusive culture at all levels of the institution in support of a positive and healthy working environment. The SEOS is responsible for overseeing others and conducting investigations pertaining to discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct (Title IX), and retaliation complaints. In addition, the SEOS will manage the Rice's restorative justice program.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Title VI and VII of the CRA, Title IX, ADA/504 and demonstrate knowledge of equal opportunity, human resources, compliance, and other related fields.

Workplace Requirements

This position is offered as a hybrid role, combining both in-office and remote work to provide flexibility and support collaboration. Per Rice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change.

Hiring Range

This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position, and the hiring range is $84,234 - $ 92,500 annually, depending on skills and experience. Exempt (salaried) positions under FLSA are not eligible for overtime.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree
    • In lieu of the education requirement, additional related experience, above and beyond what is required, may be substituted on an equivalent year-for-year basis.
  • Three or more (3+) years of directly related, progressive experience in conducting sexual misconduct/Title IX, and discrimination investigations, mediation, restorative justice and other forms of dispute resolution.
    • In lieu of the experience requirement, additional related education above and beyond what is required may be substituted on an equivalent year-for-year basis.

Preferences
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Experience with Title VI and Title VII of the CRA, Title IX, ADA/504
  • Professional investigation experience in a university setting
  • Juris Doctorate degree

Essential Functions
  • Assist in monitoring and addressing incidents/complaints and overseeing the University's response.
  • Work with various departments to investigate and resolve complaints of unlawful discrimination which includes interviewing witnesses, analyzing evidence, making determinations, producing reports and, in conjunction with the appropriate administrators, formulate courses of action to address those matters.
  • Interprets University policies and procedures, and local, state and federal rules and regulations related to EO issues.
  • Compile and analyze data.
  • Maintain accurate and compliant case files and databases.
  • Designs and delivers antidiscrimination programming for the University, including delivering ongoing training designed to promote awareness and prevent discrimination, harassment and sexual misconduct, including domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking.
  • May schedule, plan, coordinate and organize special events for EOS.
  • May prepare, edit and produce publications and reports for the office.
  • Manage informal dispute resolution
  • Performs all other job duties as assigned
