The Senior Project Manager leads engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) projects for high-voltage transmission, distribution, and substation work, from project award through closeout. This role is responsible for the scope, schedule, budget, safety, quality, and customer relationships of assigned projects, and works closely with engineering, procurement, estimating, field operations, and subcontractors to deliver complex projects safely, on time, and within budget. The anticipated compensation for this position is $170,000-$200,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
What You'll Do
Project Leadership & EPC Delivery
- Lead EPC projects from award and kickoff through engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and closeout.
- Develop project execution plans and schedule the project in logical steps to meet contractual milestones.
- Plan, organize, and direct construction and maintenance activities for transmission, distribution, and substation facilities, usually through superintendents and supervisory personnel.
- Participate in the conceptual development of projects and support estimating and pre-construction efforts, including scope and constructability reviews.
- Execute corrective actions and recovery plans to address delays, bad weather, design changes, or emergencies.
Engineering, Procurement & Subcontractor Coordination
- Coordinate with internal and third-party engineering teams to manage design deliverables, drawing reviews, RFIs, and submittals.
- Oversee procurement of long-lead materials and equipment in coordination with supply chain to support project schedules.
- Prepare, negotiate, and administer contracts and revisions with consultants, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Interpret and explain plans, specifications, and contract terms to project staff, field crews, and clients.
Financial & Contract Management
- Manage project budgets, job costs, forecasts, and productivity to meet financial targets.
- Prepare and submit budget estimates, cost-to-complete forecasts, progress reports, and cost tracking reports.
- Identify, price, negotiate, and process change orders and contractual changes with customers and subcontractors.
- Review subcontractor and vendor invoices and support progress billing in coordination with project controls and accounting.
Customer & Stakeholder Relations
- Serve as the primary point of contact for owners, utility customers, engineers, permitting agencies, and other stakeholders.
- Confer with supervisory personnel, owners, subcontractors, and engineers to discuss and resolve work procedures, complaints, or construction problems.
- Present project status, financial performance, and risk updates to customers and company leadership.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure all work complies with company safety programs, OSHA requirements, and customer standards.
- Ensure work meets design specifications and quality standards, and that project documentation, including as-builts, is complete and accurate.
- Manage permitting and regulatory compliance for assigned projects.
Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop project managers, project engineers, coordinators, and field leadership.
- Other duties and tasks, as assigned.
What You'll Bring
Minimum Qualifications:
- 8+ years of project management experience in the construction industry, including experience managing EPC or design-build projects.
- Demonstrated ability to manage large, complex projects, including budgets, schedules, contracts, subcontractors, and cross-functional teams.
- Working knowledge of construction contracts, change order management, and project cost control.
- Ability to write business correspondence and communicate effectively.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from other managers, clients, customers, and local permitting agencies.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office suite, with strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Must be willing to travel, short-term.
- Must pass mandatory drug and alcohol screening(s).
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- High-voltage powerline industry experience (transmission, distribution, or substation).
- PMP certification or OSHA 30 certification.
