BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This is professional services and engineering work position, overseeing subordinate engineering personnel and maintaining a project workload. Responsibilities include conducting highly complex environmental engineering planning and review; managing environmental pollution abatement, remediation, and prevention projects; overseeing work of subordinate staff; while ensuring that all work conforms to sound engineering practices while being cost effective. The position reports to an Environmental Engineering Services Manager.
This position manages and provides engineering support to the Bureau of Remediation and Waste Management (BRWM) programs in the Southern Maine Regional Office (SMRO). The position oversees and approves environmental engineering projects, plans, permits, designs, and related documents in order to ensure compliance with state and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Conducting engineering reviews, and managing pollution abatement, remediation, and prevention projects in order to ensure projects advance through approval and compliance process is also required. Assignments may originate from the Petroleum, Uncontrolled Sites, Brownfields, VRAP, CERCLA, RCRA, Hazardous Waste, Federal Facilities or Solid Waste programs. Assignments may also include providing engineering lead and support in the investigation and remediation of residential heating oil spills and associated indoor air quality.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Licensure as a Professional Engineer and two (2) years of professional experience in environmental engineering or related field after licensure.
LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIRMENTS: (These must be met by all employees prior to attaining permanent status in this class): Licensure as a Professional Engineer by the Maine State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers.
