Senior Engineering Manager leads our Data Platform team at Root. In this critical role, you'll lead a team of data engineers focused on maintaining our data pipelines, data orchestration, and advanced analytics and data science capabilities. You will partner across all business units and functions to set and execute against Root's foundational data strategy.
Salary Range: $182,000 - $231,000 (Eligible for Competitive Bonus & Equity Offering)

How You Will Make an Impact- Set the short and long term strategy for the Data Platform in partnership with Qualitative Science, Decision Science and Product
- Effectively manage the individuals on your team to ensure they are performing well in their role and as members of the team
- Use an appropriate mixture of coaching, directive feedback, and delegation to achieve business, team and individual goals
- Identify gaps in the team and develop plans to address those gaps via individual development, hiring, or partnership
- Proactively dive into code, design reviews, and technical challenges alongside your team when necessary, demonstrating a hands-on approach to problem-solving and leading by example to ensure high-quality software development and timely project delivery
- Work closely with the Engineering Leadership team to improve the effectiveness of the Engineering org as a whole
What You Will Need to Succeed- 7+ years as a data engineer
- 5+ years as a people manager on engineering teams
- Experience with SQL, Python, Terraform, and AWS cloud infrastructure
- Experience building and maintaining OLAP systems and data platforms
- Familiarity with Ruby on Rails
- Expertise in Cloud Architecture preferred
- Proven leadership of projects involving multiple teams across functional domains
- Excellent communication skills both with engineering colleagues and senior business leaders
