About this Role

The Senior Engineering Advisor is a strategic technical leader within QISG, responsible for guiding engineering excellence across power system protection, substation, and transmission projects. This role provides high-level technical oversight in protective relaying and power system analysis, establishes engineering standards, and partners with operational leadership to drive quality, innovation, and consistency throughout the project lifecycle.

 

Serving as a senior subject matter expert in protection engineering, this position supports conceptual through detailed design phases, strengthens workforce development, and advances QISG’s technical reputation within the industry through active participation in professional conferences and standards bodies.

What You'll Do
  • Strategically collaborate with engineering and operational leadership to define technical goals, priorities, and long-term engineering initiatives.
  • Provide senior-level oversight of engineering work to ensure technical quality, consistency, and compliance with company and customer standards.
  • Act as technical lead during conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design phases of transmission and substation projects, including customer and jobsite visits as required.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in protective relaying, power system analysis, and substation engineering, including relay settings, coordination studies, short-circuit analysis, arc flash, and related design functions.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve engineering controls, technical governance processes, and quality assurance standards.
  • Establish and oversee technical training strategies, mentoring programs, and professional development pathways for engineering staff.
  • Support business development efforts through participation in client meetings, technical proposal development, scope definition, and strategic project planning.
  • Collaborate with Quanta Engineering and Construction OpU’s to drive integrated project execution and expand service offerings.
  • Drive innovation and efficiency in engineering methodologies, tools, and technologies to enhance project delivery and performance.
  • Represent QISG in industry forums, conferences, and professional associations to enhance the company’s technical reputation and thought leadership.
  • Foster a culture of safety, quality, integrity, and technical excellence consistent with QISG’s core values.
  • Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and advancements in engineering practices, incorporating relevant innovations into company standards and project execution.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What You'll Bring
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in the electric utility industry performing engineering and/or management of power system protection, substation, and/or transmission projects.
  • Bachelor of Science degree (B.S.) or Graduate degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
  • E. license required.
  • Extensive technical expertise in electrical engineering disciplines related to electric utility infrastructure, with depth in protective relaying, power system studies, and substation protection and control systems.
  • Expert knowledge of electric utility engineering and construction standards.
  • Strong understanding of engineering studies, modeling tools, and analytical software used in protection design and power system analysis, including relay settings platforms, short-circuit and coordination tools, and simulation environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret complex technical and business issues, mitigate risk, and develop strategic solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting external customers.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, clients, and external partners.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards, including NERC reliability standards, IEEE protection standards, and IEC 61850 communication protocols for protection and control applications.

Compensation RangeThe anticipated compensation for this position is USD $190,400.00/Yr. - USD $248,500.00/Yr. depending on experience and qualifications.
