The Prince George's County Department of The Environment is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Senior Engineer (Engineer 3G) position grade G29 in the Flood Management and Environmental Resilience Division
About the Position

This is a full-time, professional Senior Engineer position in the Flood Management and Environmental Resilience Division. The incumbent's primary duty is to perform engineering assessments and evaluations of flooding and drainage problems affecting residential communities across the County. This position requires the incumbent to employ principles and practices of civil engineering in performing hydrology and hydraulic analyses and design of storm drainage infrastructure. Additional duties include project management, contract management, program management and other related duties. Knowledge of relevant County code requirements, and stormwater management design criteria is essential for performance of duties. Work includes field and office assignments, and provides opportunities to exercise independent planning, judgment and technical decision making under the direct supervision of a principal or higher-level engineer, or higher-level management personnel. Incumbent may exercise supervision over subordinate level para-professional and technical personnel. The incumbent is considered an "Essential" employee and may be required to report for work during natural/manmade disasters, and during special operations as assigned. "Essential" employees are expected to report or remain at work when other County employees are granted administrative leave.

Examples of Work

• Performs field investigations, data analysis, and computer modeling to determine the cause of flooding and drainage problems and to inform how to address it.
• Computes grade requirements and water flow rates to determine design specifications.
• Performs hydrologic and hydraulic modeling using Geographic Information System (GIS) software.
• Utilizes and applies advanced principles and practices of civil engineering, planning and environmental science as it relates to water resources specifically stormwater management and flood control projects.
• Prepares and completes engineering reports and project summaries.
• Interprets computer model results and effectively communicates results to government and non-government organizations, stakeholders, residents, businesses and other stakeholders.
• Assists and advises civic associations, homeowner associations, businesses, professional organizations, schools and government agencies on stormwater management, flood control and environmental resilience.
• Prepares and deliver presentations at conferences, seminars and community meetings.
• Develops technical content for presentation, briefings and other communications.
• Develops scope of work for assigned projects.
• Prepares and/or reviews engineering designs for projects of varying size and complexity.
• Prepares bid documents for engineering projects; compile and assemble bid information including plans and drawings, specifications, and contract provisions.
• Manages design and construction projects for municipal drainage system improvements.
• Monitors and advises the construction, operations, or maintenance activities at project site.
• Monitors contract administration by reviewing invoices for payment and processing related contract documents.
• Assists in the planning of engineering and environmental projects relating to storm drainage, stormwater management and flood control for the Engineering Services Section.
• Effectively and efficiently prepares correspondence, studies, and reports in accordance with current professional principles and practices related to civil engineering, environmental and water resources sciences.
• Assures that the County adheres to the Federal and State Environmental permit requirements.
• Develops recommendations for program enhancement and improvement.
• Oversees the procurement, preparation, and administration of contracts and agreements.
• Performs other tasks, as assigned, that are within the general occupational category and responsibility level associated with the position work class.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the engineering field determined by the requirements of the position (e.g., civil, environmental, architectural, industrial, construction)
• Three (3) years of progressive professional engineering experience in the appropriate engineering field.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

OR

• A Professional Engineer (PE) License may be substituted for the degree and at least three (3) years of professional experience in the appropriate engineering field.
