Full Job Description
Location: Livermore, CA
Title: Senior Engineer - Facility Design (NWS 00931)

Successful candidates will be employees of NWS supporting the missions of their federal client, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) in Livermore, CA. Pay, benefits, Human Resources, and employment management functions are all provided by NWS. As an NWS employee working at LLNL, within the client's environment, you will complete day-to-day tasks, with direction from technical personnel directly employed by LLNL.

Due to operational requirements, the position may require overtime, shift work, weekends, alternate schedules, or other nonstandard work hours. Required on-site training must be completed before performing certain assignments.

Essential Duties
- Lead and perform facility design activities from conceptual development through detailed design, installation, testing, commissioning, and turnover.
- Develop and review facility layouts, equipment arrangements, utility systems, process systems, and infrastructure modifications.
- Prepare and approve, as authorized, engineering drawings, CAD models, specifications, calculations, bills of material, and installation documentation.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary designs involving architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, process, fire protection, safety, and operations disciplines.
- Contribute to design reviews, constructability reviews, field walkdowns, vendor meetings, installation support, and commissioning activities.
- Perform and review spatial coordination, interference checks, access and maintainability assessments, and tolerance evaluations.
- Develop or review structural, thermal, fluid, and other engineering analyses supporting facility design decisions.
- Evaluate existing facility conditions, drawings, surveys, equipment data, and as-built information.
- Establish design requirements, identify technical risks, and develop practical solutions for complex facility engineering problems.
- Mentor less-experienced designers, engineers, and technicians.
- Review and verify the technical accuracy, completeness, quality, and compliance of work produced by peers and other engineering disciplines.
- Coordinate with vendors and construction personnel to resolve technical issues and support project completion.
- Prepare engineering reports, technical presentations, design reviews, procedures, and project documentation.
- Support configuration management, document control, work planning, and compliance with applicable engineering standards and laboratory procedures.
- Independently prioritize assignments and deliver quality results within established schedules and cost constraints.

Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Associate degree in engineering, engineering technology, drafting, or a related field, or equivalent applicable experience.
- Significant experience in facility engineering, facility design, engineering technology, or related discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex facility design projects from conception through implementation.
- Broad knowledge of facility systems, including mechanical, structural, utility, process, electrical, and equipment integration requirements.
- Extensive experience developing and reviewing CAD models, engineering drawings, specifications, and design documentation.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering and design teams.
- Knowledge of facility layouts, constructability, maintainability, installation, testing, commissioning, and operational requirements.
- Ability to interpret and integrate architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, process, and facility drawings.
- Demonstrated ability to perform or review engineering calculations, spatial coordination, interference reviews, and design verification.
- Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing and applicable engineering codes, standards, and design practices.
- Demonstrated analytical, organizational, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to independently resolve technical issues and achieve results on schedule.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present technical information to small and large groups.
- Experience working effectively with engineers, scientists, designers, technicians, coordinators, vendors, construction personnel, and facility operators.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Must meet pre-employment requirements, including any required physical examination, drug screening, and background investigation.

Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Experience with PTC Creo, AutoCAD, Revit, or other CAD and facility design software.
- Experience with PTC Windchill or other product lifecycle management and document control systems.
- Experience with facility management, building information modeling, or configuration management systems.
- Experience supporting DOE facilities, national laboratories, classified environments, industrial operations, or nuclear-related work controls.
- Experience with construction support, installation, testing, commissioning, facility operations, or project closeout.
- Experience mentoring personnel and providing technical leadership within multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience reviewing and verifying the accuracy of work performed by peers and other engineering disciplines.

Special Requirements
Pre-Placement Medical Exam: A job-related pre-placement medical examination may be required.

Anticipated Government Clearance Level: Q (position will be cleared to this level). Applicants who are selected will be subject to a federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matters. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.
