Full Job Description

Position Overview: 

As a Senior Engineer on the Engine Peripherals team at Mercury Marine, you will be focused on designing and managing induction, exhaust, thermal management, and sealing components and systems for new engine programs.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead concept exploration and selection through competitive assessments, concept trade-off studies, cross-functional reviews, etc.

  • Compare and recommend solutions while showcasing compromises (fit and finish, cost, mass, schedule, resources, manufacturability, etc.)

  • Develop and execute FMEAs and DVPs, apply DFSS tools, facilitate failure analysis and corrective actions

  • Proactively direct cross-functional communication and issue resolution (across Industrial Design, Manufacturing, Supplier, Technician, System Testing, Purchasing, and Supplier Quality teams)

  • Make and defend independent judgments regarding technical issues

  • Maintain high engineering excellence level (creativity, processes, drawings, craftsmanship, usability, etc.)

  • Develop component and system test plans; write and execute test requests

  • Collaborate with and direct CAD designers, simulation analysts, and test technicians

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field

  • 5+ years experience with engine component and system design and development

  • Knowledge of four-stroke engine performance principles

  • Understanding and application of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing

  • Demonstrated FMEA and DVP execution

  • Ability to utilize Creo for 3D model evaluation or component analysis

  • Experience with Teamcenter or similar PLM software/Change Release Process

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field

  • Experience with marine propulsion systems or boating in general

  • Component design-and-release experience from clean-sheet concept to production launch

  • Strong knowledge of materials selection and manufacturing processes, including injection molding, casting, additive manufacturing, elastomers, etc.

  • Rigorous application of engineering fundamentals (including first-principles calculation, design of experiments, and method development) to:

    • Fluid systems (intake/exhaust dynamics and tuning, fuel handling, heat rejection, etc.)

    • Structural and mounted components (sealing, fatigue, bolted joints, vibration and isolation, etc.)

  • Expertise in processing and reporting both analytical and empirical data to drive decisions

  • Demonstrated application of Six Sigma tools and root cause analysis

  • Formal training or certification in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing

The anticipated pay range for this position is $86,500 - $126,800 annually.  The actual base pay offered will vary depending on multiple factors including job-related knowledge/skills, relevant experience, business needs, and geographic location.  In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus program. At Brunswick, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top end of the salary range for their role. Compensation decisions are dependent upon the specifics of the candidate’s qualifications and the business context.
