Job Description:

Why This Role Matters

Join Alpine, an ITW Company, as a Senior Engineer and use your structural engineering expertise to help customers develop safe, efficient, and economical wood truss solutions. In this role, you will tackle complex structural design challenges, provide technical guidance to customers and colleagues, and contribute engineering expertise that supports the continued development of Alpine's proprietary design software.

This is an opportunity to combine hands-on engineering, problem solving, customer partnership, and technical leadership while making a direct impact on the solutions Alpine provides to the building components industry.

What You Will Do

  • Develop complex structural solutions by designing and analyzing wood trusses, framing systems, repairs, and components using engineering principles, judgment, and Alpine's proprietary design software.
  • Partner with customers to solve technical challenges, including evaluating framing layouts, calculating special loads, supporting plan takeoffs, troubleshooting structural concerns, and identifying safe, practical, and cost-effective design solutions.
  • Review and validate engineering designs for technical accuracy, completeness, applicable design standards, building codes, specifications, and engineering principles.
  • Provide technical leadership to the engineering team by reviewing the work of engineers and designers, answering complex design questions, supporting training and development, and helping ensure consistent design quality.
  • Support field and product-related engineering needs, including occasional job site inspections and investigations to evaluate structural performance, repair requests, or other design-related concerns.
  • Partner with Alpine's software development team by providing engineering expertise, technical input, and recommendations that enhance Alpine's engineering and design software.

What You Will Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline with coursework in statics, strength of materials, structural analysis, and structural design, or an equivalent combination of specialized education and relevant experience.
  • Relevant structural engineering experience, including a minimum of 3 years with a Professional Engineering (PE) License or minimum of 10 years without a PE and the ability to obtain your PE licensure with company support.
  • Experience with truss design and drafting techniques, including plating methods and/or light-gauge steel connection methods, engineering notes, design manuals, and span tables.
  • Strong knowledge of structural engineering principles, applicable building codes and design standards, particularly statics and strength of materials.
  • Ability to read and interpret roof and framing layouts and develop structurally sound, practical, and cost-effective truss configurations.
  • Strong communication, documentation, customer-service, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively.

What's In It For You

At Alpine, you will have the opportunity to apply your engineering expertise to complex, real-world structural challenges while working directly with customers and cross-functional teams. You will have the ability to influence both engineering solutions and the technology used to deliver them, while serving as a technical resource to other engineers and designers.

As part of ITW, Alpine offers an environment centered on customer focus, accountability, continuous learning, adaptability, and delivering results.

Additional Details

  • Approximately 10% travel may be required, including travel to customer locations and jobsites.
  • The position is primarily performed in an office environment, with occasional exposure to manufacturing environments and jobsites where appropriate personal protective equipment may be required.

Compensation Information:

$82,000 - $125,000 (high level of experience)
