Role Description

Terawatt Infrastructure seeks a Senior Energy and Utilities Manager for its Energy & Utility team. The Senior Energy and Utilities Manager is a critical, independent contributor role responsible for developing and executing comprehensive utility engagement strategies throughout the entire development lifecycle of Terawatt Infrastructure projects. This individual will serve as the primary point of contact and subject matter expert for all utility-related matters, ensuring seamless coordination and alignment between various internal teams. Reporting directly to the VP of Energy, this role works in close collaboration with the Real Estate, Development, Construction, and Business Development departments.

The role spans the full development lifecycle: utility feasibility and site selection during evaluation, utility design and schedule integration during project engineering, and budget ownership and commercial negotiation as projects move to construction and energization.

Core Responsibilities

Domain ownership

• Serve as the primary point of contact and subject matter expert for all utility-related matters.
• Inform the Company's energy and energization strategy through collaboration with the Real Estate, Development, Construction, and Business Development teams.
• Identify, hire, and manage utility consultants as needed for projects.

Site evaluation & due diligence

• Engage utility providers during site evaluation to assess infrastructure availability, capacity, costs, and potential risks.
• Conduct utility due diligence and work with development teams to determine optimal site selection based on utility feasibility and economic considerations.

Project engineering & schedule

• Own key project milestones and deliverables and manage delivery dates.
• Contribute to the customer design and own utility design process, ensuring utility requirements and specifications are integrated into project plans, including detailed utility layouts, load calculations, utility service options, and energization designs.
• Create project schedules and forecasts incorporating utility timelines for service connections, upgrades, and relocations, critical dependencies, mitigating potential delays.
• Collaborate closely and guide the Acquisition, Development and Construction teams regarding preliminary utility-related engineering, design, and construction timelines.
• Be a problem solver when utility bottlenecks or failures are causing project delays.

Budget & commercial

• Develop and manage comprehensive utility budgets, encompassing utility costs (electrical and civil), estimating Cost of Aid of Construction adjustments,, including cost estimation, financial forecasting, and identification of cost-saving opportunities.
• Negotiate and execute utility agreements and contracts.
• Manage relationships with utility providers, resolve disputes, and stay abreast of utility changes and industry best practices.
• Understand and make critical decisions and recommendations regarding timing, cost, and economic trade-offs involved with site energization or interconnection for behind-the-meter generation.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science Related Field.
• 5+ years of experience working with electrical utilities in major US metro areas.
• Demonstrated experience managing a portfolio of 10+ concurrent, complex projects, including prioritizing competing deadlines and resources across a high-volume pipeline.
• A demonstrated understanding of utility distribution, sub-transmission infrastructure and electrical design standards.
• Experience with the complete utility coordination process, from preliminary load study to energization.
• Strategic thinking skills regarding business, operations, and technical challenges, coupled with the technical skills to execute project schedules, contracts, initiatives, and team objectives.
• Experience in estimating utility service costs.
• Familiarity with project development from greenfield or brownfield site acquisition to operational assets.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience drafting electrical single lines and conceptual site layouts.
• A strong network of relationships with regulated electrical utilities and their personnel across the US, enabling faster engagement on new projects.
• Interconnection experience for behind-the-meter (BTM) generation or storage at scale.
• EV charging, data center, or other large-load interconnection experience.
• Experience developing and engineering large-load or generation projects.
• Prior utility-side experience (e.g., at a utility or as a utility consultant), rather than developer-side only.
• Solid understanding of energy rates and tariff structures, with experience conducting rate/cost analysis to support site feasibility, budgeting, or contract negotiations.
• Advanced degree (MS in Electrical Engineering or related field) or MBA.

$145,000 - $180,000 a year

Compensation for this role is determined by several factors, including the cost of labor in specific geographic markets, and these ranges are intended to provide a helpful reference. The actual compensation offer will be based on the candidate's location, skills, level of expertise and experience, and internal equity considerations. In addition to base salary, we offer a comprehensive benefits package and, where applicable, performance-based incentives.
