Position DescriptionCustomer Care and Energy Solutions Division is seeking a Senior Electrical Service Representative (Sr. ESR) to work out of one of its (North or South) Service Centers. The work of this position requires strong customer service and both written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to learn, interpret and apply regulations for electric service installations. In this position, you will use your strong organizational and project management skills to provide technical assistance and advice to commercial customers regarding City Light policies, requirements, and rates with new or modified electrical service. This position reports to the Electrical Service Representative Supervisor.
Job ResponsibilitiesHere is more about what you'll be doing: - Initiate electrical service installation orders and contract applications for new or modified electrical services; calculate cost for service connection and determine utilization rates.
- Review commercial customer electrical service plans to ensure plans are consistent with power availability and electrical service code requirements; in a timely manner, prepare written responses to customers regarding requirements or corrections.
- Interpret codes and other requirements relating to electrical service installations; provide advice on service size, equipment configuration, point of service attachment, and route of service.
- Conduct on-site inspections of new and modified electrical service to ensure safety and compliance with applicable requirements; review orders, determine what is needed for connection; maintain accurate and timely project notes; follow up to ensure compliance prior to connection of service.
- Receive, investigate, and respond to electric service problems and inquiries (e.g., downed wires, trees, or problems concerning service entrance equipment and electrical meters), and participate in their resolution, coordinating with other staff as needed.
- Coordinate City Light staff and resources to ensure that new or modified service will be provided to customers in a timely manner; communicate the status of the project to the customer.
- Understand and adhere to safety requirements in the field and report hazards.
- Safely operate a motor vehicle and possess the ability to locate and drive to different addresses within the City Light distribution area.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications: In addition to the skills and experience mentioned below, a successful applicant will have experience that reflects a commitment to creating fair and equitable outcomes and has:
Requires a minimum of three years progressively responsible experience in public relations and residential and commercial advisory work in the electrical power service field, at least one year equivalent to a City of Seattle Electrical Service Representative; two years of college coursework in electrical science, business administration, or related field may substitute for a maximum of one year of the required experience (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).
Work Environment/Physical Demands- Work is often performed outdoors in inclement weather.
- Some work is performed near high voltage equipment. Precautions are required when working near energized lines at construction sites.
License, Certification and Other Requirements- Current Washington State driver's license.
Desired Qualifications - You will be successful if you have the following experience, skills, and abilities:
- Five or more years of experience in public relations and/or residential and/or commercial advisory work in the electrical power service field.
- Prior experience managing multiple projects.
- Prior experience working in a diverse community/work environment.
- Technical background in an electrical or construction field.
- High level of customer service experience and problem-solving skills involving oral and/or written responses.
- Project management experience and organizational skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and ability to use/learn complex utility computer systems.
- Experience in prioritizing work daily due to changes in customer & crew requests/availability.
- Ability to work with others, e.g., coworkers, people from other work units, city departments, etc.
- Ability to learn and understand the Utility's electrical distribution system and explain related technical information to customers.
