OVERVIEW

Merrick & Company is looking for a Senior Instrumentation and Controls System Engineer for our Oak Ridge, TN project office. This position supports Nuclear Services and Technology (NST) projects related to Department of Energy (DOE) work. Other projects may include industrial power generation.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

This engineering position includes the following key responsibilities:
  • Performs complex technical work, applying broad and advanced knowledge of engineering principles across multiple disciplines.
  • Independently executes assignments and leads discipline efforts on major or multi-project work with complex features.
  • Provides technical oversight by reviewing engineering work for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Operates with general direction on objectives and critical issues, seeking guidance on unique or unprecedented conditions as needed.
  • Serves as project discipline lead, directing multi-discipline coordination and execution across multiple or large-scale projects.
  • Supervises and mentors staff, assigns and schedules work, and ensures quality and consistency in deliverables.
  • Manages project resources, including scope, schedule, budget, and reporting.
  • Supports and leads proposal efforts, including development of technical content, cost estimates, and resource planning.
  • Interfaces regularly with clients, vendors, contractors, and regulatory representatives.
  • Leads project meetings and delivers technical presentations to stakeholders.
  • Contributes to business development and marketing efforts for new and existing clients.
  • Assists in the development of design criteria, engineering standards, and technical tools or software resources.
  • Serves in a technical management role for a larger group or functional area, as needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an A.B.E.T accredited program required.
  • Twelve (12)+ years of related experience.
  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) License required.
  • Uses advanced techniques in the modification or extension of theories and practices of sciences and disciplines to complete assignments.
  • Expert in codes and standards.
  • Extensive experience with the equipment and components used in electrical and control systems.
  • Proven leadership qualities.
  • Demonstrates advanced technical skills and/or specialization. Well suited to develop training programs, design aids, and standards for the discipline.
  • Well suited for performing independent technical reviews of projects within the discipline.
  • Client projects for this position require US Citizenship.
