Description

As a Senior Electrical Engineer you will provide Electrical Engineering and Maintenance leadership, technical expertise, and business perspective in all areas pertaining to plant electrical systems to ensure safe, environmentally sound, and profitable operation.

  • Provide technical assistance to the refinery on routine daily electrical issues, including providing troubleshooting assistance to the Electricians, making recommendations to the refinery on field repairs, interpretation of Electrical data gathered during Preventative Maintenance Work orders, and consultations with Design Engineering on electrical design packages.
  • Provide technical expertise of refinery equipment, including power distribution systems, motor controls, switchgear, UPS systems, and substations.
  • Assist Operations and Maintenance Departments during Electrical System Disturbances.
  • Create and update electrical drawings such as one-line diagrams, motor and breaker schematics, panel schedules, and other related drawings as needed.
  • Prepare and submit Management of Change (MOC) documentation related to electrical systems and projects and champion the change process through to Pre-Startup Safety Review, Startup of the change and Closeout of the MOC.
  • Develop and steward electrical system reliability improvement opportunities, including participation in development and execution of a strategy to improve plant electrical reliability. This strategy involves capital improvement, preventive maintenance, repair strategies, etc.
  • Contribute to cost estimate of projects and major maintenance work.
  • Update and maintain E-TAP electrical system model as electrical system additions and changes occur.
  • Prepare Refinery short circuit studies, load flow studies, arc flash studies, and motor starting studies as needed.
  • Prepare high voltage switching procedures. Coordinate and oversee the execution of these procedures by Maintenance personnel.
  • Propose amendments to Electrical Safety Policy as necessary to address latest codes and technology.
  • Determine hazardous area classifications and oversee application of appropriate equipment.
  • Manage power requests (permanent and temporary) and coordinate with the other proposed projects or ones in progress. Make decisions independently on engineering problems and methods, and represents the organization in meetings to resolve important questions and to plan and coordinate work.
  • Provide functional and final checkouts of new and modified Electrical System Installations.
  • Oversee adherence to city and county regulations including special equipment approvals (U.L. or equal) and building permits.
  • Direct and advise the application of Company standards in electrical design, equipment specification, construction, and testing.
  • Serve as co-ESARN representative for Valero-Wilmington in monthly phone meetings and yearly face to face meetings.
  • Participate in incident investigations utilizing the Cause Map Method and assists in generating incident reports or failure analyses for incidents involving electrical system disturbances and electrical equipment failures.
  • Provide technical interface with the local power utility company.
  • Accountable for management and maintenance of electrical critical equipment database.
  • Develop, manage and maintain electrical equipment risk rankings for new or existing equipment.
  • Accountable for all electrical turnaround and outage work scope.
  • Develop temporary power designs to support turnaround/outage needs, including temporary power required by projects being executed in turnaround.
  • Accountable for all switching procedures associated with turnaround.
  • Review and approve electrical preventive maintenance test reports in turnaround.


This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.

The salary range for this position is $134,000 to $185,000 and represents Valero's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of expected compensation at the time of this posting. Actual compensation will be determined based on a number of job-related factors, including but not limited to, the individual's qualifications and experience.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero Wilmington Refinery, required.
  • Bachelor's or higher level degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
  • 5 years of electrical engineering experience in an industrial plant required.


Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience in electrical distribution up to 34.5kV, industrial cogeneration above 10MW, large project execution both engineering and field construction, protective relay coordination, application and testing, and hazardous area classification preferred.
  • Experience in refining or petrochemical environment preferred.
