The Opportunity

Hitachi Energy is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our growing Grid & Power Quality Solutions team in Raleigh, North Carolina. This is an opportunity to work on cutting-edge power system projects that directly support grid modernization, reliability, and the expanding energy demands of the future. As data centers and electrification continue to drive unprecedented growth in power consumption, utilities are turning to innovative technologies to strengthen existing infrastructure and improve grid stability. You will play a key role in delivering those solutions.

In this role, you will contribute to large-scale transmission and power quality projects, collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop auxiliary power systems that support high-voltage installations. These projects help utilities increase network capacity, improve system resilience, and deliver reliable power to communities across North America. The position offers the opportunity to work on funded, high-impact projects within a rapidly expanding business, while developing expertise in industry-leading technologies and engineering practices. Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures and guidelines.

This hybrid role offers flexibility, with team members typically working two to three days per week from the Raleigh or Cary office.

How You'll Make an Impact
  • Design and develop auxiliary power systems supporting high-voltage and extra-high-voltage transmission projects.
  • Perform electrical studies, simulations, and system analysis using ETAP or equivalent tools.
  • Develop low-voltage and medium-voltage AC distribution solutions, including cable sizing and protection coordination.
  • Design DC systems including battery sizing, battery chargers, and DC cable sizing.
  • Lead technical engineering activities and deliver high-quality designs on schedule and within budget.
  • Collaborate with electrical lead engineers and cross-functional teams to execute complex projects.
  • Support testing, installation, commissioning, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Engage with customers, suppliers, contractors, and stakeholders to deliver effective engineering solutions.

Your Background
  • Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering.
  • 7+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience, or advanced education combined with related industry experience.

  • Strong knowledge of low-voltage and medium-voltage systems, including AC/DC distribution, cable sizing, battery systems, and protection coordination.
  • Experience with NEC, ANSI, and IEEE standards and electrical engineering best practices.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability to obtain one is preferred.

What We Offer
  • Comprehensive Health Coverage - Medical, dental, vision, and prescription plans
  • Retirement Savings - 401(k) with company match and additional contributions
