Full Job Description
Position Summary:

STARPLUS ENERGY LLC is seeking a highly experienced Sr. Manager to join our Environment, Health, Safety team to provide overall leadership for our safety and environmental compliance, fire protection and emergency response operations. The Sr. EHS Manager will drive the EHS vision and strategy aligned with regulatory requirements and oversee all environmental, health, safety, industrial hygiene, fire safety and sustainability programs within the battery manufacturing operation. This role ensures compliance with federal, state and local regulations while fostering a proactive "Safety First" culture. As a critical member of the EHS leadership team, the Sr. EHS Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and leading EHS regulatory compliance programs across battery manufacturing facilities. Additionally, this position is responsible for ensuring the organization is fully prepared to establish and oversee a comprehensive fire protection strategy for battery manufacturing hazards. This position reports to the CEO.

Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulatory federal, state and local agencies such as Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), IDEM, DOT, NFPA.
  • Own all environmental permits and compliance programs for air (TV) waste (RCRA), water (NPDES, POTW) and related reporting requirements
  • Lead sustainability, waste and water reduction, circular economy, and carbon reduction initiatives
  • Oversee chemical storage and hazardous materials management
  • Act as a primary liaison with regulators and external agencies
  • Lead site-wide programs for machine safety, LOTO, electrical safety, industrial hygiene and ergonomics and injury prevention
  • Drive proactive risk identification and implement risk reduction and prevention strategies across all operations
  • Champion a site-wide culture of safety ownership, driving zero-incident metrics through employee engagement, continuous training, and transparent communication
  • Oversee incident reporting and OSHA record-keeping and ensure corrective and preventive actions are implemented and effective
  • Lead and resource the on-site Emergency Response Team (ERT), ensuring specialized training for lithium-ion battery fires, chemical spills, and high-voltage hazards
  • Ensure monitoring and maintenance of fire detection and alarm systems and well as all other automatic sprinkler systems across the facility.
  • Serve as the primary incident commander during major crises and coordinate seamlessly with local municipal or state emergency services (fire, police, hazmat)
  • Oversee regular drills, tabletop exercises, and vulnerability assessments to test the readiness of the Disaster Recovery infrastructure
  • Maintain emergency response plans and incident command structure and trained responders
  • Own the EHS management system lifecycle for standardized policies and procedures and ensure readiness for ISO certifications
  • Establish EHS budgets and resource planning
  • Oversee contractor and behavior-based safety programs
  • Act as a key integrator between JV partners resolving differences and aligning priorities
  • Partner with the SDI EHS representative to support the success of the joint venture through aligned EHS and Disaster Recovery initiatives
  • Promotes a culture of mutual respect, transparency, and inclusion by fostering effective collaboration across JV partners, functions, and team members
  • Perform other position related duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

Basic:
  • Minimum Age: 18 years old
  • Bachelor Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industry Hygiene, Chemistry or related field
  • 10 years of progressive EHS leadership
  • Proven track record of managing Disaster Recovery, Crisis Management, or Emergency Response teams in a high hazard environment
  • Strong crisis-management capabilities with the ability to remain calm, analytical, and decisive under extreme pressure
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence everyone from shop-floor technicians to C-suite executives
  • Deep knowledge of OSHA General Industry standards, EPA regulations, and NFPA 855
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States
  • While travel is unlikely, the ideal candidate will be able to travel, with reasonable prior notice as required (domestic and/or international)
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, or holidays as required


Preferred:
  • Master's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industry Hygiene, Chemistry or related field
  • Experience in battery manufacturing, automotive manufacturing, chemical processing, semiconductor, or advanced manufacturing environments
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manage (CHMM)
  • ISO 14001 Lead Auditor
  • ISO 45001 Lead Auditor


Working Conditions:
  • Ability to sit, walk and stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work around the potential exposure to dust and chemicals
  • Ability to wear appropriate PPE as deemed essential for the job function
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
