The Senior Durability Project Engineer leads vehicle and component durability testing, focusing on structural performance, fatigue, and vibration. This role develops, plans and executes test programs, analyzes results, and provides recommendations to improve product reliability and durability. Working closely with customers and engineering teams, the engineer solves complex durability challenges using advanced laboratory testing techniques.
As a Senior Durability Project Engineer, you will be responsible for:- Leading advanced durability and reliability test programs focused on road load simulation, fatigue life assessment, structural durability, vibration, and failure analysis of vehicles, systems, and components
- Planning, developing, and executing accelerated durability tests using multi-axis road simulators, hydraulic test systems, servo-hydraulic equipment, and custom laboratory test fixtures
- Coordinating the use of engineering support staff, technicians, instrumentation, data acquisition systems, and laboratory resources to successfully deliver customer programs on schedule and within budget
- Preparing quotations, developing test plans, instrumenting test articles, conducting data acquisition, monitoring durability tests, performing damage correlation and fatigue analysis, preparing technical reports, and presenting engineering findings and recommendations to customers
- Developing test correlations between proving ground, field, and laboratory environments using road load data, fatigue theory, and predictive durability methodologies to accurately reproduce real-world damage
As a Senior Durability Project Engineer, you will need:- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field
- Minimum of 5 years of testing experience
- Valid driver's license and good driving record
- Strong project management, customer communication, and technical presentation skills with the ability to manage multiple customer programs simultaneously
- Experience with durability test control and data acquisition software such as MTS RPC Pro, RPC Connect, nCode, Siemens TestLab, NI LabVIEW, or equivalent engineering analysis tools
- Experience with durability, fatigue, structural dynamics, vibration, and accelerated life testing methodologies
- Knowledge of road load data acquisition, road load replication (RLDA), fatigue analysis, and damage correlation techniques
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization and present technical information clearly
- Experienced multi-tasker and team player with excellent interpersonal skills, both verbal and written
A successful candidate may also have:- Understanding of Suspension and Chassis systems engineering
- Experience operating and conducting tests on multi-axis road simulators, servo-hydraulic test systems, durability rigs, four-post shaker systems, Kinematics & Compliance (K&C) machines, environmental chambers, or chassis dynamometers
- Working knowledge of finite element analysis (FEA), stress analysis, fatigue life prediction, and structural durability principles
- Experience performing root cause failure investigations and developing engineering recommendations to improve product durability and reliability
