Overview

GovCIO is seeking a Senior Network Administrator to join our team, supporting a critical program with the U.S. Coast Guard. This position is primarily onsite in the Kearneysville, WV area, with the possibility of occasional remote work based on operational needs and management approval. This is a Back End Days shift position, working 0645–1900, Thursday–Saturday with rotating Wednesdays, in alignment with 24/7 operational requirements.

Responsibilities

The Senior Network Administrator will be a lead member of the Information Technology Operations Center (ITOC), a 24/7 facility dedicated to ensuring seamless operation and robust security of critical IT infrastructure. This role involves overseeing the management, maintenance, and optimization of complex network systems to support continuous operations and mission-critical activities.

  • Lead the management, maintenance, and optimization of network systems within a demanding 24/7 operational environment to ensure maximum high availability and security.
  • Architect, configure, and manage a wide array of enterprise network devices, including high-end routers and switches.
  • Utilize and configure advanced network monitoring and analysis tools such as Wireshark and SolarWinds to proactively monitor performance, perform trend analysis, and lead rapid incident resolution.
  • Develop and enforce stringent network security protocols and industry best practices to protect sensitive federal data and systems.
  • Conduct expert-level troubleshooting for complex, multi-layered network issues related to TCP/IP protocols, VLAN management, and advanced routing/switching protocols (BGP, OSPF).
  • Mentor junior and journeyman staff, collaborating effectively with internal teams and stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of network services.
  • Provide senior-level technical escalations during shift work as required by the 24/7 operational needs of the ITOC.
Qualifications

High School with 9+ years (or commensurate experience)

Required Skills and Experience

  • Current DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE, CySA+, CCNA Security).
  • Expert-level proficiency configuring and managing enterprise-grade network devices.
  • Advanced mastery of TCP/IP, complex VLAN management, and core routing/switching protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF).
  • Deep hands-on experience with advanced network monitoring, packet analysis, and troubleshooting tools (Wireshark, SolarWinds).
  • Proven track record of implementing network security protocols and best practices in a regulated environment.
  • Ability to lead and succeed in a demanding 24/7 operational environment, including availability for shift work.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and professional teamwork skills.

Clearance Required: Active Secret Clearance

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience supporting the U.S. Coast Guard or other DHS/DoD environments.
  • Advanced networking certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience maintaining large-scale enterprise networks and datacenter environments.
  • Experience with network virtualization and managing networks for virtual machines.
