Responsibilities

  • Serve as the medical lead for LC-FAOD, MPS VII and MPS IIIA, ensuring the execution of US tactical plans.

Position Summary:

Ultragenyx is seeking an accomplished medical affairs leader, motivated by working in a highly scientific, innovative, and fast-paced environment, and driven to lead the future of rare disease medicine. This exceptional leader must have deep scientific knowledge, strong business acumen, and exemplary communication skills. The Senior Director will play a key medical leadership role in the LC-FAOD and MPS franchises for the US region, supporting assets with distinct lifecycle management cycles.
Work Model:

Remote: Officially documented as working full-time from home, with travel to Ultragenyx's offices or other locations on occasion as needed.
Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the medical lead for LC-FAOD, MPS VII and MPS IIIA, accountable for the regional pull-through of the global medical strategy, and the development and timely execution of US tactical plans aligned to brand strategy and lifecycle priorities
  • Serve as the UX111 US medical launch team, accountable for developing and leading the execution of a robust medical launch plan, partnering closely with the Field Medical and Gene Therapy Treatment Teams. Provide clear directions to teams to ensure successful execution of the launch plan
  • Accountable to define and deliver meaningful strategic goals that demonstrate measurable impact on medical affairs and business outcomes
  • Lead and/or implement US data generation activities aligned to the integrated evidence plan/US medical needs and provide medical leadership for associated evidence dissemination activities
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs); integrate insights into strategic planning and lead collaborations on priority initiatives, such as advisory boards, QTC connect meetings and payer education as needed
  • Provide deep disease area and product expertise, ensuring accurate and consistent communication of clinical and scientific data
  • Lead US conference strategy, including the delivery of scientific education symposia and other educational events that advance HCP knowledge and understanding of assigned programs
  • Collaborate closely with the US field medical team, supporting the full cycle of strategic insights generation through to action
  • Ensure development of impactful scientific resources (slide decks, FAQs, educational materials) for use by US field teams
  • Represent US medical and serve as an active contributor to the Global Medical Strategy Team on all assigned programs, ensuring that US insights inform global strategy
  • Provide medical and scientific expertise for promotional and non-promotional materials/medical affairs review committees, ensuring scientific accuracy, strategic alignment, suitability for use and compliant with US regulations
  • Collaborate effectively with the Global Medical team and other cross-functional partners, including all commercialization functions, patient advocacy, clinical development, HEOR, diagnostics, scientific communications and publications and regulatory
Requirements:
  • MD with specialty training in metabolic genetics, with rare disease expertise, or PhD with substantial, relevant experience in the LC-FAOD and MPSs
  • At least five years' experience in pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry, including US medical affairs
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute medical launch strategies in the US market is highly preferred
  • Proven leadership skills, including ability to navigate ambiguous situations and collaborate with cross functional teams on complex initiatives to drive alignment and decision-making
  • High aptitude for attention to detail, commitment to high-quality work, and sense of passion and urgency to achieve goals and improve the lives of patients
  • Proven ability to take initiative and drive successful execution of complex projects
  • Highly analytical and strategic thinker with the ability to identify interdependencies, consider medical implications, and understand broader program and organizational goals
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate scientific and strategic concepts in both written documents and verbal presentations

The typical annual salary range for this full-time position is listed below. This range reflects the characteristics of the job, such as required skills and qualifications and is based on the office location noted in this job posting. The range may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.

This position is eligible for annual bonus and equity incentives. Actual individual pay is determined by demonstrated experience and internal equity alignment.

Pay Range

$270,500-$334,100 USD
