Job Title: Senior Director, Strategic Giving Department: Office of Philanthropic Advancement

Job Summary: The Senior Director, Strategic Giving is a senior frontline fundraising leader responsible for advancing major and principal gift strategy during a critical phase of The Virginia Home's capital campaign. This role will manage a portfolio of high-capacity donors and prospects while driving strategy, performance, and pipeline development across the major gifts program.
Working in close partnership with the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Philanthropy Officer and Board leadership, this position will play a central role in securing transformational gifts, building campaign momentum, and ensuring a disciplined, metrics-driven approach to fundraising.
Portfolio
• Manage a portfolio of approximately 75-100 donors and prospects capable of $50,000-$500,000+ gifts

Assistant Director, Strategic Giving
Duties/Responsibilities:
Major Gift Strategy & Pipeline Management
• Manage a robust portfolio of individual, corporate, and foundation donors and prospects capable of $50,000+ gifts.
• Develop and execute individualized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies utilizing all available giving channels, including planned giving.
• Build and maintain a strong, active pipeline with clear next steps and defined timelines.
Campaign Gift Leadership
• Lead strategy and execution for leadership-level gifts ($100,000+).
• Partner closely with the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Philanthropy Officer and Board volunteers to advance and close major gift opportunities for the campaign.
• Support campaign planning and execution, including priority setting and donor strategy development.
Portfolio Management & Donor Movement
• Conduct 10-12 substantive donor visits per month.
• Advance prospects through all stages of the pipeline: qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
• Secure multi-year commitments aligned with the annual fund and campaign priorities.
Strategic Giving Oversight
• Supervise the Assistant Director, Strategic Giving.
• Ensure coordinated strategies for donors in the $1,000-$25,000 range, with a focus on upgrading and pipeline development.
• Partner to transition qualified donors into the major gifts portfolio.
Pipeline & Metrics Reporting
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date prospect tracking and moves management systems.
• Provide monthly reporting on visits, solicitations, pipeline movement, and revenue progress.
• Utilize data to inform strategy, prioritize activity, and forecast results.

Requirements

Education and Experience:
• Bachelor's degree required.
• 7-10+ years of progressive fundraising experience, with a focus on major and principal gifts.
• Demonstrated success securing six and seven figure gifts.
• Experience working in a campaign environment.
• Strong strategic thinking, communication, and relationship management skills.
• Salary commensurate with experience.
Physical demands:Although physical limitations for this position can be accommodated, the job's physical demands can include but are not limited to intermittent sitting, standing, stooping, crouching, walking, and some light lifting. Work is performed chiefly in an office environment. Some work on nights and weekends, with notice.
