This role oversees architecture, software delivery, and product strategy to ensure scalable, high-quality systems aligned with business objectives. The position requires collaboration across teams to drive innovation, operational excellence, and continuous improvement while fostering a culture of technical excellence and accountability. The leader mentors senior engineers, manages stakeholder relationships, and champions the adoption of emerging technologies to support long-term organizational growth and adaptability.

About the team:

Walmart Data Ventures delivers first-party consumer data to empower suppliers with actionable insights for optimized omnichannel operations. The Data Venture Engineering team builds and manages a global platform emphasizing reliability, scalability, and operational excellence. Operating with agility, the team drives innovation and high-quality product delivery. The Senior Director of Software Engineering leads efforts to enhance system reliability and scalability, leveraging advanced technologies to build maintainable products efficiently. This leadership role fosters continuous improvement and operational best practices, supporting Walmart's commitment to data-driven decision-making and strong supplier collaboration.

What you'll do:

  • Lead end-to-end execution of engineering programs focused on AI/ML-enhanced solutions, ensuring scalability and maintainability.
  • Provide architectural guidance across backend, frontend, and mobile technologies to standardize and accelerate software delivery.
  • Collaborate with Product and Program Management to align roadmaps, define milestones, and drive AI-driven software product strategy.
  • Cultivate engineering talent through mentorship, fostering a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous growth.
  • Ensure technical quality and business alignment by making informed decisions and resolving project challenges.
  • Promote innovation by identifying improvement opportunities and integrating emerging technologies.


What you'll bring:

  • Extensive experience leading engineering programs with a focus on AI/ML-enhanced software solutions and cloud-native technologies.
  • Proven expertise in software architecture, system design, and scalable solution delivery across multiple technology stacks.
  • Strong skills in stakeholder management, project and product management, and driving technology roadmaps.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams, mentor senior leaders, and foster a culture of technical excellence.
  • Proficiency in DevOps architecture, continuous integration/delivery, and cloud financial management (FinOps).

Sunnyvale, California US-11656: The annual salary range for this position is $208,000.00 - $416,000.00
