Sr. Director, Operations

LOMBARD, IL

The Role:

Work Model: Hybrid

Travel Requirements: Yes, overnight travel up to 50%

Supervisory Responsibilities: Yes, oversight of 1-3 direct reports

Reports to: Division Sr. VP

Summary / Primary Role:

The Sr. Director, Operations plans and directs activities, policies, objectives, and initiatives for the Business Unit within the Intermodal Division according to the mission of the Division, ensuring the Business Unit meets budgeted financial goals and objectives.

What You'll Do:

We are seeking a strategic operations leader to plan and direct the Business Unit's policies, objectives, and initiatives, driving financial performance, operational excellence, and a strong leadership culture across the Intermodal Division.
  • Operations Leadership & Talent Development
    • Provide leadership, direction, and vision to operations personnel to achieve BU annual revenue, service, and growth objectives, motivating direct reports to achieve EBITDA targets and maximize profitability.
    • Utilize continuous improvement methodologies to build a culture focused on employee safety, quality, and cost effectiveness, while supporting talent acquisition, employee development, and succession planning across the division.
  • Strategic Planning & Execution
    • Lead and execute the strategic direction for the Business Unit in alignment with the organization's long-term goals, directing operational initiatives to grow the business, ensure financial strength, and drive efficiencies.
    • Identify top-line growth initiatives and carry out approved business and operational plans, programs, and strategy, including full administrative, financial, and sales responsibility in support of corporate vision.
  • Team Culture & Performance Management
    • Create and inspire a team environment grounded in open communication, setting clear goals, delegating tasks, and holding team members accountable for performance.
    • Partner with Human Resources to identify training needs and ensure coaching is provided, listening to team feedback and resolving issues or conflicts as they arise.
  • Cross-Divisional Collaboration
    • Liaise and collaborate with all members of Odyssey leadership.
    • Work with other division leaders to drive synergies across the organization.
  • Strategic Compliance & Reporting
    • Create strategic plans to meet goals set forth by the Division President, Corporate Office, and applicable regulations, leading compliance with Company policies, procedures, and Corporate Compliance Programs as well as government regulations.
    • Provide regular updates to the Division President and Corporate Office regarding Business Unit activities, including strategy and financial performance.


What You Bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in business or a related area required
  • 5-10 years of progressive operations management experience in the metals/intermodal industry
  • Well-established people leadership skills spanning organizational levels, with proven ability to formulate organizational vision and strategy and lead a team in achieving it
  • Strong understanding of corporate finance and performance management principles, with expertise in interpreting contracts and customer negotiations
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and communication skills, with strong knowledge of industry best practices in logistics and demonstrated ability to apply Continuous Improvement methodologies
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, OSHA, and EPA regulations required; this is a safety-sensitive position subject to 5-panel drug testing, including marijuana


Compensation & Schedule Details:

Base Pay Range: $170,000 to $190,000 [annual]

Bonus Eligible: Yes

Commission Eligible: No
