Description

We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Senior Director of Field Operations to lead, optimize, and scale field operations across the organization. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing day-to-day field execution while developing long-term operational strategies that align with organizational goals, customer expectations, and growth initiatives.

The Senior Director of Field Operations will provide leadership for multiple field teams, ensuring operational excellence, workforce productivity, safety compliance, quality standards, and customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate combines executive-level strategic planning with a hands-on operational mindset, driving continuous improvement, process standardization, and cross-functional collaboration across the enterprise. This leader will serve as a key member of the leadership team, influencing organizational strategy, operational performance, employee engagement, and service delivery outcomes.
Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute field operations strategies that support organizational objectives, operational excellence, and sustainable growth.
  • Operational Excellence: Oversee all field operations activities, ensuring efficient execution, standardized processes, and consistent service delivery across multiple locations or regions.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, and develop regional managers, supervisors, and field teams while fostering a culture of accountability, safety, engagement, and high performance.
  • Performance Management: Establish, monitor, and report on operational KPIs, service metrics, productivity measures, quality indicators, and customer satisfaction results.
  • Resource Planning: Direct workforce planning, staffing strategies, equipment allocation, and operational readiness to meet business demands.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure adherence to all applicable federal, state, local, and company safety regulations, policies, and operational standards.
  • Financial Management: Develop and manage departmental budgets, capital expenditures, forecasting, cost-control initiatives, and operational investments.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for operational improvements through technology, automation, workflow optimization, and best-practice implementation.
  • Project & Program Oversight: Lead large-scale operational initiatives, capital projects, system implementations, and organizational change efforts.
  • Customer & Stakeholder Engagement: Partner with internal departments, customers, vendors, and external stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery and exceptional customer experiences.
  • Vendor & Contract Management: Oversee strategic vendor relationships, service agreements, procurement activities, and contract performance.
  • Risk Management: Identify operational risks, develop mitigation strategies, and ensure business continuity across field operations.
  • Executive Reporting: Provide regular updates, strategic recommendations, and operational performance reports to executive leadership.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

  • 12+ years of progressive operational leadership experience, including at least 7 years leading large field operations teams across multiple locations or regions.
  • Demonstrated success managing large-scale operations, service delivery organizations, construction, infrastructure, utility, transportation, public sector, or related field operations environments.
  • Proven experience leading managers and supervisors while overseeing geographically dispersed workforces.
  • Strong knowledge of operational planning, workforce management, budgeting, forecasting, and performance measurement.
  • Experience implementing operational excellence methodologies, continuous improvement initiatives, and process standardization programs.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, stakeholder management, and change-management skills.
  • Proven ability to influence senior leadership and drive organizational strategy.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with experience utilizing operational data and metrics to support decision-making.
  • Demonstrated experience managing vendor relationships, contracts, and capital projects.
  • Ability to travel as necessary to support field operations and organizational initiatives.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Engineering, Public Administration, Construction Management, or a related field required.
  • Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA), Operations Management, Engineering, or related discipline preferred.
  • Professional certifications such as PMP, Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, Certified Director of Operations (CDO), APICS/ASCM, or equivalent are highly desirable.
