Job DescriptionAs Senior Director, North American Benefits & Global Wellness, you will be responsible for the development, design, financial management, implementation, governance, communication and policy interpretations of benefit programs (drug, dental, medical, vision, critical illness, life, disability) for over 80,000 employees and 25,000 retirees in Canada and the US; as well as wellness and employee assistance programs for over 90,000 employees globally. You will be the strategic leader driving the transformation of RBC's benefits and wellness ecosystem through innovative use of artificial intelligence, positioning RBC as a market leader in AI-enabled employee benefits.
What will you do?- Provide strategic advice and direction on benefit plan design in North America and wellness program design globally
- Proactively identify, recommend, stakeholder and obtain approval for, and lead implementation of innovations and program enhancements to advance RBC's benefits and wellness strategies
- Define RBC's global wellness strategy looking for ways to continuously increase employee engagement in RBC's wellness initiatives and measuring the impact of initiatives in terms of employee behavior and long term financial impact
- Ensure current programs are aligned with business objectives and RBC's People and Culture strategy, competitive within the market, and financially sustainable in the long-term
- Lead annual design reviews and pricing of active and retiree benefit programs in North America
- Leverage external networks to provide RBC with competitive intelligence and to keep abreast of market trends and legislative developments, and technological innovations, developing appropriate solutions and ensuring continued regulatory compliance
- Partner with HR business partners and senior business leaders to address business issues and employee concerns and creatively bring solutions that are aligned with RBC's goals and values
- Partner with external vendors or internal RBC functional teams to explore development of innovative benefit offerings or creation of differentiated employee experiences
- Deliver benefits and wellness communications to employees, identifying opportunities for improvement and enhanced transparency to encourage consumerism and help employees make informed decisions
- Manage key (material) vendor relationships, responsible for contract negotiations and benefits pricing decisions in conjunction with actuarial consultants, Procurement, Legal and Finance
- Analyze and monitor trends and identify opportunities for cost efficiency and containment
- Lead benefits and wellness aspects of mergers and acquisitions and divestitures in North America including pre-deal planning, due diligence assessments, sales agreement negotiations and integration strategy
AI Strategy, Implementation & Optimization- Develop and execute a comprehensive AI strategy for RBC's benefits and wellness programs, identifying priority use cases that deliver measurable value in employee experience and operational efficiency
- Drive continuous process optimization and automation through AI use in benefits and wellness, while ensuring full adherence to regulatory requirements
- Monitor and communicate the impact of AI implementations on employee experience, process efficiency, cost savings, and business outcomes
- Stay abreast of AI advancements in HR and benefits technology, continuously evaluating emerging solutions and recommending adoption where strategically valuable
What do you need to succeed?Must have:- 15 years of experience in a similar role with a large complex organization
- Demonstrated experience identifying, evaluating, and implementing AI or automation solutions in benefits, HR administration, or related business functions
- Undergraduate degree in Finance, Commerce, Human Resources, or similar.
- Extensive knowledge of benefit programs and policies in Canada and the US and employee/organizational wellness and mental health strategies
- Proven effectiveness in strategic oversight and end-to-end execution
- Strong analytical skills and financial acumen
- Deadline-driven and results-oriented; able to meet consistently high quality standards while handling a variety of tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
Nice-to-have:- Actuarial professional designation or similar certification
- Advanced technical knowledge of AI/machine learning applications, particularly in HR or benefits context
- Ability to facilitate between and influence key decision makers
- Strategic thinker with excellent interpersonal skills to partner across functions and businesses
