Full Job Description
The Senior Director of Construction provides executive-level oversight of all construction activities across Sphere Entertainment's development portfolio. This role is responsible for overseeing development, pre-construction, construction, scheduling, design, logistics, and constructability throughout the entire project lifecycle, from early planning through project closeout. The Senior Director ensures that trade sequencing is thoroughly reviewed and optimized and oversees site logistics across project locations to maintain safe, efficient, and schedule-driven operations. What will you do? Pre-Construction & Constructability • Lead constructability reviews during design development, identifying conflicts, sequencing risks, and opportunities for value engineering. Provide practical input on means and methods, temporary works, and phasing strategies that inform design decisions and protect schedule milestones. Construction Oversight • Direct and oversee all construction operations across active project sites. Ensure work is executed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the quality standards required by Sphere Entertainment's program. Maintain a constant presence in the field to validate progress, resolve issues in real time, and hold trade partners accountable to commitments. Schedule Management • Review and challenge contractor schedules at both macro and activity levels. Validate logic ties, durations, and resource loading against practical field knowledge. Identify schedule risks early and drive recovery strategies that protect milestone dates. Design Coordination • Interface with design teams, the Engineer of Record, and specialty consultants to ensure design intent is translated into buildable, coordinated construction documents. Flag design gaps, tolerance conflicts, and installation challenges before they reach the field. Trade Sequencing & Coordination • Review sequencing of all trades throughout the construction process. Ensure that work-front handoffs, concurrent operations, and critical-path activities are planned and executed without conflict. Anticipate and resolve trade stacking, access constraints, and material staging issues. Site Logistics • Oversee site logistics planning and execution by project location, including crane planning, material laydown, vertical and horizontal transportation, temporary utilities, and site access. Ensure logistics plans evolve with the project and support peak production periods. Stakeholder Management • Serve as a primary point of contact between Sphere Entertainment and construction managers, general contractors, and key subcontractors. Communicate project status, risks, and decisions to executive leadership with clarity and confidence. • Provide exceptional experiences for our guests, partners, and team members, including by adhering to our appearance and presentation guidelines while on-site. What you need to succeed • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline preferred; equivalent depth of field experience may be considered in lieu of formal education. • Minimum 10+ years of progressive experience in commercial construction, with the majority of that experience spent directly managing field operations across all phases of construction, from ground-up sitework through structure, building envelope, and interior fit-out. • Extensive firsthand experience with large-scale, complex projects exceeding $500M in construction value, including entertainment venues, stadiums, convention centers, or comparable program-driven facilities. • Demonstrated experience personally managing and coordinating multiple concurrent trades on active job sites, with a strong understanding of how structural steel, concrete, curtain wall, MEP, and specialty systems come together and sequence. • Proven ability to read, interpret, and challenge construction documents, shop drawings, and erection plans, identifying issues through practical field knowledge and experience. • Direct experience planning and executing complex erection sequences, heavy lifts, and phased construction operations requiring close coordination among trades and engineering teams. • Familiarity with union labor environments, craft productivity expectations, and workforce planning during peak manpower periods. • Strong understanding of construction sequencing and field operations, with the ability to identify issues, work that is out of sequence, and potential schedule or cost impacts before they escalate. • Fluency in means and methods across major construction trades, with the credibility to challenge contractors on proposed approaches and hold them accountable to realistic production rates. • Strong knowledge of crane logistics, rigging plans, temporary shoring and bracing, and the practical constraints that govern field execution. • Ability to translate field-level realities into executive-level communication by distilling complex construction issues into clear, actionable recommendations for leadership. • Skilled in reading and driving CPM schedules, with the hands-on experience to identify padded durations, broken logic, and unrealistic resource assumptions. • Demonstrated leadership presence and technical credibility to earn the respect of trade foremen, project managers, and executive stakeholders. • Comfortable operating across multiple project locations simultaneously, with the judgment to prioritize time and resources where they are most needed. #LI-Onsite Pay Range $134,000-$240,000 USD At MSG, we recognize the importance of upskilling employees' talents and strengths so they can drive their careers forward. We are proud to offer a robust set of tools and resources to help employees understand their interests and purpose, harness their talents and obtain the skills they need to reach the next step in their careers. Growth and longevity for our employees are top priorities here.
