Position Summary

The Senior Director of Ambulatory Supply Chain reports directly to the Vice President, Supply Chain Site Operations, and serves as the senior executive responsible for ambulatory supply chain operations across Duke University Health System's network of ambulatory clinics, outpatient facilities, and Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs). This leader is accountable for establishing and executing a system-wide ambulatory supply chain strategy that supports Duke Health's clinical, operational, and financial objectives while enabling continued growth across the ambulatory enterprise. The Senior Director provides executive oversight for inventory management, logistics and service delivery, ambulatory supply operations, operational standardization, technology enablement, customer experience, and performance improvement initiatives across all ambulatory locations.

The Senior Director develops and governs a scalable operating model that ensures consistent service, operational excellence, and financial stewardship across a geographically diverse ambulatory network. This role serves as the executive supply chain leader for ambulatory operations and is responsible for aligning supply chain capabilities with the evolving needs of ambulatory clinics and ASCs while supporting organizational growth, expansion, and transformation initiatives.The ideal candidate is a highly collaborative and influential healthcare leader with demonstrated success leading multi-site operations within the Ambulatory space, building high-performing teams, partnering with clinical and executive leaders, and driving results through complex cross-functional relationships. The individual must possess strong operational, financial, and strategic leadership capabilities and have experience leading large-scale change within a matrixed healthcare environment.

Scope of Responsibility
  • Executive Oversight: Direct ambulatory supply chain operations across DUHS ambulatory clinics and ASCs.
  • Strategic Roadmapping: Develop and execute the ambulatory supply chain strategic roadmap.
  • Service & Performance: Own ambulatory supply chain service delivery, performance metrics, and the overall customer experience.
  • Governance: Establish system-wide operational standards, governance, and performance metrics.
  • Transformation & Technology: Lead ambulatory supply chain transformation, optimization, and technology initiatives.
  • Growth & Integration: Drive the operational integration of new ambulatory locations, acquisitions, expansions, and growth initiatives.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate seamlessly with clinical, operational, finance, IT, procurement, and executive leadership to support organizational objectives.


Experience Requirements

Required Experience
  • 7+ years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare operations, ambulatory operations, supply chain management, logistics, or related healthcare services.
  • 5+ years of direct leadership experience managing managers, supervisors, and multi-site operational teams.
  • Multi-Site Management: Demonstrated experience overseeing operations across a large ambulatory network, including physician practices, specialty clinics, procedural areas, and/or Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs).
  • Stakeholder Influence: Proven ability to influence physicians, clinical leaders, operational leaders, and executive stakeholders in a highly matrixed healthcare environment.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Significant experience leading cross-functional initiatives involving clinical operations, nursing leadership, finance, facilities, information technology, procurement, and supply chain functions.
  • Process Improvement: Demonstrated success implementing large-scale operational standardization, performance management, process improvement, and organizational transformation initiatives.
  • Strategic Growth: Experience supporting healthcare growth strategies, ambulatory expansion, and operational integration efforts.
  • Executive Presence: Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively present to and influence decisions at all levels of the organization.


Preferred Experience
  • Experience leading supply chain operations within a large academic health system or integrated delivery network.
  • Direct experience supporting ambulatory growth, ASC operations, and complex multi-site healthcare environments.
  • Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement certifications/experience.
