Senior DevOps Engineer

Boeing Vancouver is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer, reporting to the Manager of Defence & Government Services working out of the Richmond, BC office.

The DevOps Engineer will be supporting the Defence & Government Services portfolio and will primarily work in collaboration and under the functional direction of our Solutions Architect. The role will exercise systems and data expertise, with a particular emphasis on on-prem infrastructure and application design, deployment and support for CI/CD.

The dynamic and rapidly advancing technologies in the world of deployment require engineers that proactively stay up to date with new technologies and are always refining their craft. The Senior DevOps Engineer will work closely with a team to ensure high availability and redundancy of all systems. The role requires a strong blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and operational experience.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Leads infrastructure design, platform engineering, and cross-cloud/hybrid architectures.
  • Defines cost monitoring and optimization strategy.
  • Designs and coordinates monitoring and observability infrastructure.
  • Maintains Compliance.
  • Mentors junior engineers and guides technical strategy.
  • Implements security-by-design, cloud migration planning, and cost optimization at scale.
  • Acts as a bridge between technical teams and executives, translating complex tech into business outcomes.
  • Leads a multidisciplined range of technical systems and application activities.
  • Leads activities to install, configure and maintain multiplatform systems hardware, software and components.
  • Leads activities to plan, develop, design, integrate and maintain all computer applications.
  • Plans and coordinates highly complex software and hardware for enterprise release. Ensures systems conforms with architectural objectives.
  • Evaluates complex system's production readiness and supportability.
  • Performs the restoration of complex computing service operations.
  • Performs complex system problem identification and resolution.
  • Leads activities to integrate security solutions into information systems.
  • Participate in incident response and post-mortem analysis to continuously improve system reliability and performance.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of configurations, operations, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Ensure all infrastructure components are securely configured and up to date with the latest security patches.


This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at Richmond location. This is at the hiring team's discretion and could potentially change in the future.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • 7+ years in DevOps, system administration, or related technical role.
  • Minimum 5 years' Software Development experience.
  • Minimum 2 years' Linux, Network Administration experience.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience with containerization and orchestration tools, particularly Kubernetes and OpenShift.
  • Proven track record of leading technical initiatives, mentoring junior engineers, and driving DevOps best practices.
  • Experience with development, deployment and version control tools (e.g., Eclipse, Git, Jira, VersionOne).
  • Experience participating in an Agile team.
  • Experience with continuous integration tools (e.g., Argo CD/Gitlab CI/CD).
  • Experience with on-premises deployment and associated challenges.
  • Must be eligible for authorization under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program.
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada.
  • Individuals must not pose a risk for safeguarding of controlled goods.
  • Must be eligible for Secret Level II security clearance.
  • Must be eligible to handle US export-controlled data.


Preferred Qualifications (Education/Experience):

  • Possesses strong blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and operational experience.
  • Experience with AI/ML
  • Strong knowledge in back-end programming languages (ie. Java, Python, Node.js)
  • Strong knowledge in front end programming languages (ie. HTML, Angular 2+, Typescript, JavaScript, React)
  • Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC), preferably using Terraform
  • Experience with developing and supporting applications in Docker
  • Experience with container orchestration using Kubernetes, OpenShift or similar
  • Experience with large and complex databases (preferably Oracle)
  • Experience with data models and database design
  • Experience operating in a production environment
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools
  • Understanding of service mesh architectures and related technologies
  • Familiarity with static code analysis tools, such as Coverity.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field

Salary pay range - $110,000.00 - $195,000.00 CAD
