Full Job Description
Purpose:

Floor & Decor is looking for a Senior Developer to join our Corporate Systems/Merchandising IT team, building, enhancing, and supporting applications for our Store associates and Store Support Center (SSC) users. This role is ideal for engineers who move fast with AI-assisted tools - turning prototypes into secure, scalable, production-grade systems without sacrificing quality.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science or a closely related field, plus 5+ years of full-cycle software development experience, ideally in retail, plus:
  • Advanced backend development in Java/Spring Boot, with hands-on use of modern Java (17/21 LTS) features (virtual threads, records, sealed classes, pattern matching) to build scalable, high-throughput services.
  • Database expertise in PostgreSQL (preferred), SQL Server, Oracle, or MySQL, including query writing, indexing, and query plan analysis for performance tuning
  • Strong grounding in microservices architecture and distributed systems design
  • Proficiency in integration patterns: REST APIs, SFTP file transfer, and pub-sub messaging (queues/topics)
  • Proven fluency with AI-assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot, Claude Code) - able to rapidly translate AI-generated prototypes and proofs-of-concept into hardened, production-ready applications, and to use AI to accelerate the full SDLC without cutting corners on security, testing, or scalability
  • Agile experience with Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills; thrives in a fast-paced, multi-initiative environment

Preferred Qualifications
  • Frontend experience with React or Angular and TypeScript
  • Cloud experience with Azure, AWS or GCP
  • CI/CD experience (Jenkins) and container orchestration (Docker Swarm or Kubernetes)
  • Practical experience with DevOps/observability tooling (Terraform, Dynatrace)

Key Responsibilities
  • Own full lifecycle delivery - requirements, design, development, unit testing, QA support, and deployment
  • Use AI-assisted development to compress the path from prototype to production, applying engineering rigor (testing, code review, security, scalability) so speed never comes at the cost of hardened, maintainable code
  • Resolve user-reported issues in ServiceNow within SLA
  • Identify and escalate risks; research and document upgrade recommendations
  • Mentor junior developers and participate in code reviews
  • Partner with business stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions
  • Contribute to technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and dev standards

Working Conditions (travel & environment)
  • Travel may be required including air and car travel
  • The noise level in the work environment is typically quiet to moderate.

PHYSICAL/SENSORY REQUIREMENTS

Sedentary Work - Ability to exert 10 - 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
