Struction Solutions is seeking a Senior Design Manager to leaddesign activities for the School Upgrade Program and critical repair projects.This role ensures compliance with LAUSD standards while managing architecturaldesign processes from conception to execution.
Key Responsibilities:- Plan, organize, and direct design activities for School Upgrade Program and critical repair projects.
- Serve as the lead design professional, providing quality reviews and ensuring consistent implementation of policies and procedures.
- Coordinate project reviews and approvals with the Division of the State Architect (DSA).
- Manage and coordinate the District's design process to ensure projects meet functional, budgetary, environmental, and legal requirements.
- Manage multiple projects from initial concept through design development, final review, approval, and handoff to Project Execution.
- Coordinate with architects, engineering consultants, contractors, District personnel, and other project stakeholders.
- Ensure new and modernized facilities comply with LAUSD design guidelines, educational standards, building requirements, and sustainability goals.
- Identify and recommend qualified architectural firms based on project needs, firm qualifications, and established performance standards.
- Provide architects and consultants with clear direction regarding project goals, design standards, site conditions, schedules, and budgets.
- Establish and manage an effective design review process that maximizes value while meeting the District's functional and operational needs.
- Facilitate timely project decisions and resolution of design-related issues.
- Maintain complete project documentation in accordance with legal, regulatory, and District requirements.
- Review proposed design changes to ensure projects remain within the approved scope and budget.
- Participate in community outreach initiatives to build understanding and support for District construction and modernization projects.
- Coordinate with professional staff supporting the District's design functions.
- Develop and participate in continuing education opportunities, including seminars and workshops involving architects, engineers, and contractors.
- Coordinate project activities with District departments, including:
- Office of Environmental Health and Safety
- A/E Design Services
- Maintenance and Operations
- School Occupancy Transitional Unit
- Asbestos Technical Unit
- Local District offices
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:- 15+ years of professional experience managing facilities design or planning and coordinating capital projects, including overall design, contract administration, cost estimating, and scheduling.
- At least 5 years of experience in the design, planning, and construction of K-12 educational facilities.
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Engineering from a recognized college or university.
- Valid California registration as an Architect or Professional Engineer.
- Preferred: Master's degree in Architecture or Engineering.
