Job Summary
In this role, you will participate/lead the design and development effort for packaging of generator set control systems used on reciprocating engines. This role will focus on diesel and gas-powered generator sets which operate in Electric Power, Oil & Gas and Marine market segments.  Generator size range is 300KW to 6000KW.

What you will do:

  • Participate in and lead project management activities for generator set control system packaging development projects.  This involves development of optimal control system solutions to meet marketing, customer, product and project objectives while managing project scope, schedule and cost
  • Demonstrate strong initiative and sense of urgency to help fulfill customer requirements and utilize creative problem solving methods to solve problems across multiple cross-functional groups (purchasing, supply chain, facility operations management, etc..)
  • Work closely with the purchasing team to identify and develop strategic supply chain partners for control system components and panel assemblies.  This will also involve participating in and leading product cost reduction efforts.
  • Maintain responsibility for all aspects of generator control system engineering development and maintenance activities
  • Complete planning, analysis and testing activities for validation of new product designs


Degree Requirement
Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering and/or Electrical Engineering Technology or similar is preferred.

  • Compares and contrasts uses of bird's-eye views and worm's-eye views.

Product Design - MFG: Knowledge of processes, approaches, tools and techniques of product design; ability to convert customer and market requirements into product design.

Product Design and Development: Knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production.

 Level Extensive Experience:

  • Develops organizational standards and processes in order to maximize complex product services' efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Creates and introduces new techniques that expedite or simplify the development process.
  • Supervises the management of multiple and diverse types of products or services.
  • Develops proof-of-concept exercises to prove or disprove validity of proposed products.
  • Advises on the appropriate solutions to complex product design and development problems.
  • Designs working prototypes of a variety of proposed products or services.

What will put you ahead:

  • At least 5 years of experience in a position relevant to this role
  • Knowledge of generator set control panel and/or power system design
  • Knowledge of IEEE, NEMA, UL and IEC standards for testing and rating of electrical machines
  • Experience using ProE, CAD Engineering Tools or Custom Computer Programs to design, develop, and calculate electrical control and power system performance
  • Proven leadership skills and experience in leading product development teams

Summary Pay Range:

$112,710.00 - $169,060.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
