About the position
The Senior Electrical Designer is r esponsible for providing constructability and building information modeling (BIM) services for Company projects, performing the design of complex systems, exercising judgement in evaluation and selection of equipment and systems components for major projects, or for several smaller but complex projects within the specific discipline. Develops fully constructible 3D models and prepares detailed electrical construction and installation documents as needed to support field electricians with challenging electrical installations and may perform design/build activities and permit set development. This position works closely with project management, engineering, design and BIM team members and others to develop and facilitate the planning strategies as required for each specific project, in alignment with all Company policies, procedures, key objectives and regulations. This position may also assist and coordinate the work of other team members, providing leadership, mentoring, coaching, and training.

Day in the life
- Provides circuit layouts, electrical power, communication systems and lighting design services, job scheduling, job completion, quality control, problem resolution, coordination, job communication, job tracking and Company client satisfaction activities for assigned projects, to achieve safety, high quality, and efficiency of work. May also provide direction in engineering studies.
- Facilitates constructability and prefab strategies on assigned projects from inception through completion, in consultation with the project team. Completes 2D and 3D drafting tasks to support electrical construction initiatives, utilizing Autodesk and other standard Company software.
- Works closely with design teams while applying detailed attention to modeling, clashing, and annotating sheets. Gathers and requests specific information from other design disciplines necessary to move forward and complete electrical designs on schedule. Surveys job sites as needed for the scope of work and quality to determine compliance with the prepared documents and customer expectations.
- May prepare detailed engineering and construction installation documents, and develop conceptual designs, sketches, or value engineering ideas to help prepare estimates. Provides calculations, specifications, estimates, device coordination, proposals, and other details required to complete electrical designs on schedule.
- Monitors the design activities of other design professionals to achieve high performance for work quality and productivity. This includes providing coaching, training, and mentoring others. Acts as constructability and QA/QC resource for the team to ensure deliverables are high quality and coordinate workload through the entire project development to complete documents on schedule.
- Consult with vendors and review project shop drawings for design accuracy and contract requirements. Works with the project team to develop engineered construction installation drawings from contract documents developed by outside firms. Participates in electrical construction-related training.
- Supports and complies with all BIM, modeling, prefab, technologies, and planning standards. Provides recommendations for changes to improve standards and procedures, as necessary. Responds to questions and address problems with appropriate resolutions and plan revisions. Stays informed of new electrical and safety codes, materials, technologies, and practices.
- If doing Photovoltaic (PV) design - design layouts including PC/battery system sizing, module string sizing, and equipment selection, and perform PV production modeling using PVSyst , PVWatts , Aurora, and Energy Toolbase . Additionally , perform PV monitoring site integration and maintenance.
- May manage design budgets and forecast resource needs. Attends BIM coordination meetings and/or multi-discipline design review meetings and makes appropriate changes as needed, escalating cost and scheduling issues as needed.
- Builds effective relationships with customers, foremen, project teams, specialty contractors, vendors, suppliers, user groups and others that reflect and support the Company's core values and meet or exceed the customer's expectations.

- Utilizes LEAN concepts or other continuous improvement methodologies to ensure the most efficient operations, processes, and activities.

Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree or equivalent work experience in electrical engineering, electrical design, or a related field. Bachelor's degree from an accredited bachelor level engineering technology degree (ABET) program required for engineering track roles.
- Minimum 7-8 years of BIM modeling experience and electrical design experience (e.g., signed, and sealed permit sets). Healthcare, heavy industrial and/or data center design experience a plus.
- Journeyman or Master Electrician License helpful. Professional Engineering (PE) license or the ability to take the PE exam within a year of hire may be required.
- Experience and proficiency using Revit, Autodesk, Navisworks, Bluebeam and Microsoft Office software. Working knowledge of engineering analysis software may be required. For engineering track roles, short circuit calculation ability using ETAP, SKM, Easy Power, or Design Master is required.
- Considerable experience supporting field electricians and a strong desire to learn more about electrical design and field installation methods of large-scale construction projects, with a commitment to being a dependable team player and growing with the Company.
- Trained and proficient with design techniques, electrical specifications, documentation, scheduling and power, lighting, and systems design work. Skills to read, interpret and understand electrical contracts, plans, drawings, and specifications. Knowledge of the National Electric Code and other building codes as they relate to design. For engineering track roles, experience with lighting, load, short circuit, and duct bank ampacity calculations is required.
- Experience and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, assess multiple demands and manage priorities with a high degree of detail and organizational skills.

Travel
- Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Occasional travel to job sites is required, sometimes requiring overnight stays.
