Full Job Description

ABOUT MEMBER XD

This leader will be responsible for leading the core member experience worldwide and creating personalized entertainment experiences that help members discover and connect with the content they love. We do this by defining the app architecture and foundational user experience strategic frameworks, ensuring excellence and platform innovation across TV, Mobile, and Web experiences, prioritizing personalized content discovery, leveraging human-centered AI, and ensuring each member’s experience on Netflix reflects what they truly value.

ABOUT YOU

You'll lead a lean remote design organization of seasoned designers, while partnering closely with cross-functional leaders across the business. We are looking for a senior executive who prides themselves on being able to strategically execute, is not motivated by title but inspired by impact, and is skilled at inspiring senior, high-caliber talent to do their best work.

You'll drive creative strategies that challenge the status quo and push user experience forward through emerging technologies—often in spaces where design hasn't yet established a foothold or set the rules. Comfort with ambiguity and uncharted territory is essential. We're looking for someone who can operate effectively in a highly matrixed organization, build and strengthen horizontal cross-functional partnerships, and influence the creative thinking that keeps Netflix at the forefront of global entertainment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Shaping strategic direction for developing new and existing member models, including the following and more:

    • Discovery & Browsing– Shape home, rows, carousels, search, genre hubs, collections, and personalization UI to help members efficiently find something great to watch.

    • Playback & Viewing– Craft intuitive, high‑quality viewing experiences across devices, including player controls, subtitles/audio, previews, interactive formats, and kids viewing modes.

    • Kids & Family – Build kid‑appropriate, family‑friendly experiences with tailored navigation, parental controls, and shared viewing flows.

    • Globalization & Accessibility – Ensure experiences are localized, culturally relevant, and accessible (assistive tech, visual contrast, cognitive load) across regions and device ecosystems.

    • AI - Establish Member XD as an AI-forward experience design organization. Operationalizing AI across every craft to drive creative excellence, accelerate innovation and artifact creation, and deliver adaptive, intelligent experiences

  • Partnering closely with the VP of Design, VP of Product, VP of Engineering, and Design Directors across XD to align on priorities and a strategic direction for the growth of Member XD.

  • Facilitating cross‑functional strategic decisions with the ability to stress‑test executive assumptions and plans respectfully, using data and scenarios to improve the quality of decisions.

  • Creating an environment that fosters high-quality, metrics-driven experimentation and drives impactful, brand-positive business improvements.

  • Embodying a depth of understanding of business and financial acumen, including strong analytical skills that are critical to the growth of the Member Netflix business globally.

  • Managing senior leaders who lead teams responsible for all member services, which include Mobile, Web, Search, Gen AI, Discovery, Playback, TV, Evidence and more.

  • Managing interdependencies across functions, resolving conflicts constructively, and driving decisions that optimize for the whole company, not just one silo.

QUALIFICATIONS

Business Insights & Acumen
Proven track record driving long-term growth impact within large-scale consumer businesses across complex ecosystems. Operates as a strategic connector—deeply understanding how the Member business shapes the broader Netflix product experience and partnering effectively with VP- and C-suite-level stakeholders across Design, Engineering, and Product.

Design Strategy, Vision & Organizational Leadership
Sets a high bar for design, craft, and long-term thinking, pushing teams toward innovation and future-oriented outcomes. Maintains deep fluency across TV, mobile, and platform capabilities to drive cohesive end-to-end experiences. Persistently advocates for strong solutions—even without immediate buy-in—using strategic socialization and stakeholder alignment to build a runway for adoption.

Thought Partnership & Decision Quality
Makes high-quality, timely decisions under ambiguity—relying on sound judgment, business acumen, and incisive questioning rather than proximity to the work. Actively seeks diverse input, separates opinion from fact, checks personal bias, and owns mistakes as learning opportunities.

Leverage & Executive Management
Communicates and operates effectively across all levels—from ICs to C-suite. Develops talent through consistent feedback, mentorship, and succession planning. Drives organizational clarity through thoughtful org design, reducing fragmentation and redundancy. Delegates with genuine trust and autonomy, enabling leaders and contributors to deliver results within a complex, matrixed environment.

Results & Leading Change
Leads teams through organizational change with candor, clarity, and directness—setting clear expectations and making success criteria explicit. Demonstrates "disagree and commit" in practice, aligning behind decisions for the good of the org. Continuously iterates on leadership approach based on feedback. Known for fairness, unbiased judgment, and the ability to provide a balanced, 360-degree perspective on complex issues.
