Salary Range:

$109,000.00 - $141,000.00

What's the Role?

Etsy is looking for a Quantitative Product Researcher who has a passion for using data and survey methods to uncover insights.

As a Quantitative Researcher on Etsy's Quantitative UX Team, part of the Strategy organization, you will work in partnership with product managers, designers, engineers, alongside other researchers and data scientists to deliver insights that will craft the future of human commerce on Etsy.

You know how to conduct professional-quality survey research and can collaborate with other researchers on mixed-methods projects. You have proven instincts about when to hold the line on methodological rigor, and when to adapt to the changing demands of a project. Most importantly, you approach your work with a genuine sense of curiosity, and you're willing to challenge conventional wisdom to find the right answer.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Senior Manager, Quantitative Research. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.

For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States. Candidates living within commutable distance of Etsy’s Brooklyn Office Hub may be the first to be considered. For candidates within commutable distance, Etsy requires in-office attendance once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. Etsy offers different work modes to meet the variety of needs and preferences of our team. Learn more details about our work modes and workplace safety policies .

What's this team like at Etsy?

  • Our team focuses on using research to guide the development of buyer and seller experiences in our dynamic marketplace of unique items
  • Quantitative UX Research at Etsy sits within the Strategy organization and is a core part of our product development culture, alongside Product Management, Engineering, Design, and Analytics
  • We collaborate with our partner teams through all stages of product development, from identifying initial opportunities, to refining the user experience to analyzing the impact of our efforts and highlighting improvement areas
  • We're a small team of four members that must work collaboratively to give teams at Etsy the data they need to power growth

What does the day-to-day look like?

Support and conduct primary survey research (including ad hoc and tracking studies) with Etsy buyers and sellers:

  • Work with other survey-focused researchers to design studies and craft user-centric survey instruments
  • Program and field surveys across multiple parts of the marketplace experience
  • Analyze survey data using R, SPSS, or Python; recognize patterns and uncover key trends and insights
  • Query and manipulate data using SQL to support research analyses and integrate behavioral data with survey findings
  • Build and maintain dashboards to track ongoing research metrics, survey tracking studies, and key experience indicators
  • Manage survey samples and ensure the quality of data collected
  • Craft engaging, recommendations-focused reporting that encourages marketplace health and drives Etsy's business goals
  • Partner with team members in Product, Design, and Marketing to guide product development and refinement, drawing on expertise in user research and UX standards.
  • Independently define project scope and apply appropriate methodologies to handle a research "portfolio" of foundational and evaluative insights.
  • Work closely with other insights professionals to develop broad approaches to meeting partner needs.
Promote proven user research methodologies across the company.
  • Manage third-party research vendors (e.g., sample providers, research agencies) when needed.
  • Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law.

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

  • 2-4 years of experience in quantitative survey research, either in-house or at an agency
  • Proficiency in R, SPSS, or Python for data analysis and manipulation (required)
  • Experience with SQL/database querying for accessing and analyzing behavioral or product data (required)
  • Experience building and maintaining dashboards to communicate ongoing metrics and research findings
  • Desire to conduct the full survey research process including questionnaire development, programming, fielding, and statistical analysis (inferential stats, correlations, regression analysis, etc.) of results
  • A focus on the details, with excellent written, visual and verbal communication skills
  • Able to keep multiple projects on track and handle competing demands
  • Ability to hold your own in a meeting and present research findings with a customer-centric perspective
  • Preferred: Experience with survey programming platforms (e.g., Qualtrics, Alchemer) strongly preferred
