Senior Counsel Commercial U.S./Canada and Global

We are seeking an experienced commercial attorney to join our Global Legal, Business Integrity & Government Affairs (GLBG) team. In this high-impact role, you will serve as a strategic advisor to senior business leaders, providing practical legal counsel on complex commercial matters while supporting key business initiatives and growth objectives.

As a member of the Food & Industrial Ingredients (F&II) US/Canada Business Leadership Team, you will act as the lead legal partner for the business, helping to shape strategy, manage risk, and drive successful outcomes. Working closely with leaders across sales, procurement, supply chain, finance, and commercial functions, you will support a broad range of commercial matters and collaborate across the global GLBG organization to deliver business-focused solutions. The US/Canada Commercial Team is also responsible for establishing and maintaining the Commercial Center of Excellence and takes the lead in supporting global strategic accounts. In addition to F&II US/Canada, the team supports the Global Sugar Reduction business as well as the Texture & Healthful Solutions US/Canada business segment.

What you will do:

Strategic Business Partnership

  • Serve as a trusted legal advisor to the F&II US/Canada leadership team, providing strategic counsel on legal, compliance, risk and business matters while partnering with key cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Align with other GLBG peers and specialists, including the General Counsel F&II LATAM, on relevant legal, strategic, business and business integrity issues consistent with the GLBG Operating Model and vision and mission.
  • Support global accounts by advising on cross-border commercial, contracting, and compliance issues, and contribute to the development of a Global Commercial Center of Excellence.
  • Oversee and manage outside counsel to ensure high-quality legal support aligned with business objectives and legal strategy.

Commercial Contracting

  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, including customer, supply, distribution, and confidentiality agreements across business segments.
  • Identify and assess legal risks and propose balanced solutions that protect and support business objectives.
  • In alignment with the General Counsel and GLBG stakeholders, enhance contracting processes, templates, and negotiation practices, including the adoption of AI-driven efficiencies.

Litigation & Claims Management

  • Manage commercial disputes, claims, and pre-litigation matters in partnership with internal stakeholders and external counsel.
  • Oversee strategy, budgeting, and execution of litigation involving commercial issues
  • Advise on dispute prevention, contract enforcement, and resolution strategies.

Compliance & Government Affairs

  • Provide guidance on legal, regulatory, and compliance requirements impacting commercial operations in the U.S. and Canada.
  • Support policies, training, governance initiatives, and advise on emerging legal developments.

What you will bring:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school; admitted to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 10+ years of relevant legal experience in a firm or in a multinational company, including significant commercial contracting and negotiation responsibilities, and significant experience counseling a business organization or client.
  • Experience advising on commercial law and providing independent, practical legal advice to meet strategic objectives.
  • Experience in ingredients company or food & beverage industry is preferred. Familiarity with food regulatory law is a plus.
  • Experience with cross-border transactions.
  • Litigation or disputemanagement experience involving commercial matters
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

Pay Range:

$181,400.00-$241,866.67 Annual

This pay range is not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Final base salary will be determined based on several factors which may include but are not limited to responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data and applicable bargaining agreement (if any).

Incentive Compensation:

As a part of the total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the Ingredion Annual Incentive Plan or a role-specific commission/bonus.
