Full Job Description
As Senior Counsel on the Business Legal team, you'll negotiate and structure the commercial agreements that power Coinbase's most strategic partnerships. This team drives deal execution for Coinbase's business development, sales, and product organizations, partnering closely with counterparties and cross-functional stakeholders to close complex, first-of-their-kind transactions. You'll own the legal strategy for high-priority commercial deals, build scalable playbooks that accelerate deal timelines, and serve as a trusted advisor to business leaders navigating novel deal structures in a rapidly evolving regulatory landscape.

What you'll do:
  • Negotiate and structure highly-tailored commercial agreements with strategic partners and sophisticated counterparties in the fintech and technology space, including first-of-their-kind deal structures.
  • Drive novel agreement frameworks for product partnerships and provide practical, risk-balanced legal guidance that enables business flexibility while protecting Coinbase's interests.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Business Development, Sales, Product, Engineering, Finance/Tax, and Compliance to solve problems, build partnerships, and close complex deals on accelerated timelines.
  • Build commercial playbooks, templates, and scaled strategies that reduce deal cycle times and enable the business to move faster on recurring transaction types.
  • Advise business leaders on transactional and product roadmap implications, proactively identifying legal risks and structuring solutions that align with Coinbase's commercial objectives.

Required Skills and Experience:
  • J.D. (or applicable equivalent) with 7+ years of relevant transactional experience in-house or at a leading law firm, with active licensure in a U.S. state.
  • Demonstrated experience negotiating and structuring complex fintech commercial agreements, with a track record of closing high-stakes deals with sophisticated counterparties.
  • Proven ability to independently own deal execution end-to-end, from term sheet through closing, across multiple concurrent transactions with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Track record of building scalable legal processes (playbooks, templates, deal frameworks) that accelerate deal velocity and reduce legal bottlenecks.
  • Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.


Pay Transparency Notice:Base salary varies by location (see range below). Total compensation may also include equity and bonus eligibility, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k)).

Annual base salary range (excluding equity and bonus):

$224,995-$264,700 USD
