The University of Toronto has extraordinary stories to tell-and an ambitious brand with a global audience. As Senior Copy Writer, Brand Marketing, you will help define how those stories are told.

Working as part of the Brand Hub team at UTC, you will bring senior-level creative thinking, exceptional writing and a strong understanding of brand to some of the University's most visible marketing and communications initiatives.

As a strong conceptual copywriter with a deep love for knowledge and ideas, you will help us translate academic research and institutional priorities into clear, compelling narratives that capture attention and build connection.

You will work on integrated brand campaigns and related projects across social, print and digital channels. You will develop concepts, messaging and copy that strengthen U of T's reputation and bring its distinctive character to life.

Working within a highly collaborative and fast-paced environment, youwill help uncover the best ideas and angles for storytelling and help explore new ways of communicating U of T's value and impact to our community, our supporters and the public.

As a seasoned creative professional, you will have the opportunity to tell compelling stories about the people, ideas and discoveries shaping our world-while helping define the voice of one of the world's leading universities.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and developing an integrated multi-channel communications strategy independently.
  • Developing creative ideas, positioning and content for marketing campaigns and/or promotional materials.
  • Writing and editing copy and content to advance communications objectives.
  • Cultivating ongoing, high-profile prospective partnerships that advance strategic agendas.
  • Advising on communication strategies to support goals and priorities.
  • Helping develop and maintain guidelines, tools and assets for the university's brand portal.
  • Ensuring others adhere to established branding requirements across all communications.
  • Interpreting highly complex market data to determine trends, inform decision making and ensure alignment with strategic goals. Implementing marketing project plans.


Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Six to seven years experience in brand marketing and copywriting.
  • Experience with developing creative strategies and concepts.
  • Experience with crafting compelling content for print, digital, social, direct, and events.
  • Experience with long and short copy, content editing and video scripts.
  • Experience and proficiency with digital communications platforms and social media.
  • Experience with assessing creative work and providing strategic advice on messaging and content.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to interact with all levels of academic and administrative staff.
  • Computer literacy: Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Exceptional writing and copy-editing skills.
  • Strong presentation skills with experience pitching creative ideas succinctly.
  • Solid understanding of web design and web content strategy.
  • Strong knowledge of brand positioning, the creative process, and the importance of strategy.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to manage competing deadlines.
