Job Description
The Senior Consultant, Data Solutions within Continuous Improvement & Data Analytics (CIDA) is a key member of Boston University's internal consulting team, supporting leadership and stakeholders across the University to design and implement data-driven solutions that optimize operations and advance strategic decision-making. Reporting to the Associate Director, Consulting Services, this position plays a critical role in leading complex projects in service areas such as data visualization, automation, system integration, advisory services, facilitation, and project management. This role offers a hybrid work environment designed to foster collaboration and flexibility, with remote work for independent and internal tasks, and in-person attendance for team activities and stakeholder meetings.
Major duties of this position include:
• Lead complex, cross-functional consulting engagements with a strong focus on data solutions, including defining project scope, identifying resource requirements, and managing project execution.
• Design, build, and implement scalable data visualization dashboards, automation solutions, and business intelligence tools that directly impact strategic initiatives.
• Analyze complex datasets and business processes to develop actionable insights, optimize workflows, and recommend system improvements.
• Facilitate workshops and meetings with stakeholders to gather business requirements, validate findings, and deliver tailored data solutions.
• Develop comprehensive presentations and data storytelling artifacts to communicate technical findings to a wide range of audiences, from operational staff to senior leadership.
• Collaborate with the CIDA team on projects where process improvement complements data solutions, ensuring holistic recommendations and implementations.
• Maintain a commitment to innovation and continuous improvement by actively identifying opportunities for enhanced service delivery through advanced analytics and automation practices.
• Represent Financial Affairs and CIDA on committees, task forces, and University-wide initiatives, providing expertise in data solutions and technology adoption.
• Advance the responsible and strategic use of artificial intelligence (AI) across the University by identifying high-value use cases, advising leaders on opportunities and risks, and integrating AI-enabled approaches into CIDA's projects and engagements.
Pay Range: Salary Grade 50
• Minimum $80,200, Midpoint $120,300, Maximum $160,500
Note: Salary is based on related experience, expertise, available budget, and internal equity.
• This position may be filled at the Consultant or Senior Consultant level, depending on the selected candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications. The anticipated salary range for this role is $85,000-$105,000, commensurate with level and experience.
• Boston University supports a flexible work environment for authorized staff members. This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement (i.e. remote work up to four (4) days per week), after completion of a successful observation period.
Required Skills
• Bachelor's degree and 5-8 years of relevant experience in client service, consulting, data analytics, process improvement, or related fields.
• Proven track record of successfully designing and implementing data solutions with measurable business impact.
• Expertise in Microsoft tools, particularly PowerBI, SharePoint, PowerAutomate, and MS SQL; familiarity with project management platforms such as Asana is a plus.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple, complex projects simultaneously with minimal oversight.
• Analytical rigor with the ability to frame hypotheses, assess options, and draw clear, actionable insights from data.
• Effective communication skills to clearly convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences and facilitate stakeholder buy-in.
• Self-motivation and ability to thrive in an environment of ambiguity, balancing independent execution with collaborative engagement.
• Sound judgment, adaptability, and a solutions-oriented mindset to navigate a fast-paced, evolving consulting environment.
Preferred Skills:
• Professional certifications such as Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (or willingness to obtain).
• Experience working within higher education or other mission-driven, complex organizational environments.
• Background in developing automated workflows, data integrations, or strategic reporting initiatives.
