Your Opportunity

An opportunity exists Ottawa, ON for a highly qualified Construction Supervisor to join our multidisciplinary team. In this role you will be responsible for construction administration services on buildings projects in Ottawa and surrounding areas. Duties will include observing all phases of construction for compliance with design documents, specifications, and client expectations. Projects will focus on civic, industrial, healthcare, commercial, and educational facilities.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate daily onsite construction activities liaising with contractors, surveyors, inspectors, design professionals, clients and relevant external parties.
  • Report deviations from contract documents and specifications. Follow through with responsible party until resolution.
  • Schedule and coordinate inspections and testing of all phases of construction.
  • Oversee the daily record-keeping of activities including work completed and inspected.
  • Communicate with the project team on construction status, issues and concerns.
  • Monitor the progress of construction activities ensuring cost, schedule and quality standards are met.
  • Organize and direct pre-construction and progress meetings.
  • Prepare monthly progress estimates to be used for contractor invoicing.
  • Prepare final documentation for closeout process.
  • Prepare final as-built records in the field for use in record drawing preparation.
  • Prepare documents and maintain file management of project-related information including, but not limited to, correspondence, reports, videos and pictures.
  • Participate in the implementation of safety controls and promote a safe workplace.
  • Train and/or mentor less experienced staff.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.


Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Experience in reading and interpreting mechanical and electrical engineering drawings. Experience in interpreting structural engineering drawings is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with national and provincial building codes and standards.
  • Construction management training and experience are considered an asset.
  • Ability to make decisions on projects based on the design criteria of engineering.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit MEP software.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Familiar with consulting contract terminology.
  • Can work independently and knows how to get along with contractors on a project site.
  • Must have valid driver's license, vehicle, and a good driving record.
  • Ability to travel within Canada may be required.
  • Eligible to apply for and receive PSPC Secret Clearance is required. Existing PSPC Secret or Reliability Clearance status is considered an asset.
  • Strong English verbal and writing skills are required. French language skills are considered an asset.
  • Good organization, coordination, and project management skills to maintain project schedules and budgets.
  • Demonstrated technical writing skills; capable of writing reports, proposals, letters, and technical specifications.

Education and Experience
  • Graduate of a Technology/Technician diploma program from a recognized post-secondary institution, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 8 years of consulting engineering experience in the buildings industry, working with municipal, provincial, federal, industrial, healthcare, commercial and educational clients.
