Senior Construction Services Specialist

Construction Observation | Water Infrastructure | Heavy Civil Construction

Carrington, ND (Based in Bismarck, ND) | Full-Time | Year-Round Employment | Long-Term Project

Join one of the most important water infrastructure projects in North Dakota and help deliver clean, reliable water to communities across the state. AE2S is seeking an experienced Senior Construction Services Specialist to provide construction observation, construction inspection, and field oversight on a large-scale water infrastructure project near Carrington, ND.

Unlike many construction positions that are seasonal, this opportunity offers the stability of year-round employment with no winter layoffs and is expected to continue for three years or longer. This role is ideal for a construction professional with experience in site grading, earthwork, utility installation, pipelines, water infrastructure, vertical construction, and public works projects who wants to make a lasting impact on a project that will serve North Dakota for generations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and perform onsite construction observation, construction inspection, and documentation for large-scale water infrastructure, heavy civil, utility, and vertical construction projects.
  • Monitor contractor activities and workmanship to verify compliance with project plans, specifications, contract requirements, and quality standards.
  • Serve as the primary field representative between the Owner, Engineer, and Contractor, facilitating clear communication and issue resolution.
  • Review and document construction progress, field reports, RFIs, pay applications, testing results, and project records.
  • Participate in construction meetings and coordinate with project teams regarding schedules, materials, quantity tracking, change orders, and field activities.
  • Identify construction challenges early and proactively develop solutions to minimize schedule impacts, cost overruns, and safety concerns.
  • Provide leadership and direction to AE2S construction observation staff while ensuring consistency in project documentation and quality control.
  • Support project managers in monitoring budgets, tracking progress, reviewing project schedules, and delivering successful project outcomes.
  • Mentor junior construction services staff and contribute to the continuous improvement of construction management and observation practices.

  • 12 years of progressive construction experience, with demonstrated leadership on large or complex projects
  • Extensive experience in mass grading, heavy civil construction, and vertical/facility construction
  • Broad knowledge of principles of engineering as it relates to the construction of complex projects
  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing, field coordination, and multidisciplinary project delivery
  • Ability to foresee potential issues and take decisive action to prevent problems.
  • Strong oral and written communication
  • Leadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as a senior technical resource

Preferred Qualifications (optional)

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in construction management or related field
  • Knowledge of project management software (e-Builder, Procore, ProjectSight) and Microsoft 365.


Physical Requirements -

  • Ability to walk up to 10 miles on uneven terrain
  • May require lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, with rare lifting of up to 75 pounds
  • Perform physical activities requiring extensive use of arms, legs, and full body movement including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials
  • Drive and navigate vehicles or mechanized equipment including all-terrain vehicles or watercraft
  • Inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify causes of errors or defects
  • Use hands and arms to handle, install, position, and manipulate or move materials
  • Service, repair, calibrate, regulate, fine-tune, or test machines, devices, or equipment operating on electrical or electronic principles
  • May be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including flame-resistant clothing, hard hat, and protective footwear
  • May require occasional evenings and weekends with overtime expectations varying with workload
  • Will require travel to off-site locations including occasional overnight stays out of town
