Job Description

As the Heavy Lifting and Rigging Engineer your main focus of responsibility will be Engineering the Heavy Lift and Heavy Haul plans, calculations and drawings. You will be ultimately responsible for making the designs and calculations of lifting and handling tools and having an overview of the engineering and operation aspects of the project.

Responsibilities:
• Review planning of ongoing and turnaround Lifting
• Control of the Lifting and Rigging Operations.
• Ensure compliance of company policies and procedure related to Lifting and rigging
• Ensure safety critical elements are maintained
• Monitoring the ongoing lifting operations at site to ensure best industry practices are carried out and legislative practices are met
• Monitor the quality of pre-lift meetings and recommend improvements when required
• Responsible for lifting equipment selection, procurement and ensure all lifting equipment meets the required company and international standards.
• Ensure all documentation required for lifting and rigging has been processed and correct in order for the lifting and rigging to proceed
• Review and approve Lifting and Rigging Method Statements, Risk assessments, Plot Plans, Rigging Studies, Heavy Lift and Critical Lift packs
• Review Transport plans and related documents pertaining to Lifting, Rigging, Jacking and Skating
• Responsible for ensuring any craneage meets the Project allowable ground loadings and identification of any underground voids or services
• Responsible for ensuring the correct crane ground loading calculation have been performed to ensure that any extra precautions required to meet the ground loading requirements are correct
• Ensure any Heavy haul loads or trailers including cranes meet the ground loading requirement to travel in the given area.

Basic Job Requirements
• Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in engineering field of study and fourteen (14) years of work-related experience; a recognized certification or registration in the applicable field, if required; some locations may have additional or different qualifications in order to comply with local requirements
• Minimum of 5 years of overall experience as authorized inspector/engineer for cranes & lifting devices
• Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors
• Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job
• Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines
• Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner
• Successful candidate must have strong E&I experience as well as strong packaging experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • P.Eng designation considered an asset.
  • A functional knowledge of AutoCAD or MicroStation, with the skill to produce detailed and technical AutoCAD lifting and rigging plot plans and studies to scale
  • Knowledge of all projects Lifting and HSE standards and requirements. (It will be accepted that a new employee to the project will require some time to familiarize himself with the standards and HSSE requirements)
  • Previous Heavy Lift and Heavy Transportation Experience in the position working in the marine and construction industries
  • Relevant experience in a similar Heavy Lifting and Rigging role in the onshore and offshore marine environments, preferably gained through working for one of the international Heavy Lifting Companies.
  • Relevant experience in a similar Heavy Lifting and Rigging Excellent knowledge in lifting equipment, lifting equipment selection for procurement and task, lifting equipment inspection and lifting equipment devaluation calculations.
  • A thorough understanding of the testing requirements for lifting and rigging equipment including but not limited to vendor lifting lugs and rigging tackle.
  • Excellent Knowledge of lifting using Mobile Crane's, Overhead Cranes, Gantry Crane's both Fixed and Trolley, Chain Blocks, Tirfor's, Jacking and Skating, Fork Truck, and Man-lifts.
  • Knowledge of international Lifting, Rigging and Crane standards.
  • Production of Lifting Risk Assessments and Method Statements
