Full Job Description
Arnett & Burgess Energy Services (ABES) is looking to add a Senior Construction Manager to the team, based out of our Blackfalds, AB office.

Reporting to the Senior Operations Manager, we are seeking an experienced construction leader who has spent a career in the field, has run spreads, and knows what it takes to build pipe safely, productively, and to specification. Paired with a Senior Project Manager, this position will lead the execution of our large, complex mainline pipeline projects from pursuit through closeout, bringing the construction expertise and field credibility that turns a winning bid into a successful build. It will support mainline pipeline construction, valve site work, and integrity and replacement programs for key clients across Western Canada.

Please Note: this position's workload follows the construction cycle. Working conditions will include travel across Western Canada, including extended stays at project sites during active construction periods and extended hours and six-day weeks through bidding and active execution, with flexibility, reduced hours, or time off during slower periods. Camp accommodation on remote projects will be provided where required.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Partner with the Senior Project Manager and estimating team to pursue, price, and win strategic RFPs, owning the construction methodology, spread configuration, and production assumptions in every bid
  • Lead development of the construction execution plan, including work breakdown, spread sequencing, crew and equipment loading, and mobilization strategy
  • Plan and oversee the full mainline sequence, valve site work, and crossings and specialty scopes such as bores, HDDs, and water crossings
  • Drive daily and weekly production with Superintendents and field leadership, managing field cost performance, crew productivity, and equipment utilization
  • Act as the primary problem solver for field issues, looking two weeks ahead to resolve ground conditions, access, weather, and resourcing challenges before they hit the schedule
  • Lead Superintendents and field teams, holding them accountable to the approved plan and developing them into future Construction Managers
  • Ensure compliance with client specifications, CSA Z662, and internal QC/HSE programs across every activity on the spread
  • Partner closely with the Project Manager and client throughout the project lifecycle, from bidding through closeout
  • Drive completion of punch list items, testing, cleanup, and reclamation through to client acceptance

Requirements
  • 15+ years of field experience executing mainline pipeline construction, with a demonstrated record on complex projects
  • Direct experience with valve site assembly and installation, including fabrication and tie-ins
  • Expert command of mainline construction methods, from clearing and grading through hydrotesting and reclamation
  • Practical knowledge of CSA Z662, client specifications, welding procedures, NDE requirements, and inspection and test plans
  • Experience supporting estimating and bid development
  • Valid class 5 driver's licence
  • Willingness to spend the majority of your time in the field, including extended periods at project sites during construction season

Preferred Skills / Qualifications
  • Prior experience as a Superintendent (Spread Boss) running mainline spreads is a strong preference
  • Experience delivering work for major midstream or transmission operators under master service agreements
  • Experience on multi-spread or multi-year mainline programs
  • Facility, compressor/pump station, or civil construction experience alongside mainline
  • Gold Seal certification, Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, or a construction management diploma or degree
  • Experience in both Alberta and British Columbia regulatory environments

Benefits

We offer a comprehensive and competitive total rewards package that includes a complete range of employee benefits to ensure you have the tools necessary to manage, maintain, and improve your health and wellbeing, including a valuable RRSP matching program, company vehicle or vehicle allowance, professional development and certification reimbursement, and an Employee and Family Assistance Program.

*Depending on qualifications, the successful candidate may be offered a position at a more appropriate level.

*Applicants must have legal authorization to work in Canada with no restrictions.
