The PWC Department of Fire & Rescue Fire Marshal's Office is looking for top quality candidates who would be responsible for fire prevention in new and existing construction. We are seeking a Senior Construction Inspector as part of a team that covers fire protection systems, controls, and devices for compliance with approved plans and the state building and fire codes.
About This Role:The successful candidate will have primary and secondary contact with contractors, project managers, elected officials, businesses, and other county agencies that engage with the Office of the Fire Marshal. The selected individual will be a subject matter expert (SME) in the Virginia Construction Code (VCC) and NFPA standards related to Fire and Life Safety systems, and the Virginia Statewide Fire Prevention Code (VSFPC). The candidate will be a dynamic and adaptable individual that can multitask, de-escalate negative situations, and manage expectations, and understand the county services related to the FMO. In addition, the candidate must be detail oriented, possess a high level of integrity, and be able to communicate well.
Minimum Requirements:High school diploma or G.E.D. and 3 years of experience in conducting inspections of fire and life safety systems in accordance with the codes (USBC, IFC, VSFPC), NFPA standards and accepted practices.
Preferences:- FireInspector I and II to the NFPA 1030 standard.
- Fire Prevention and Fire Protection systems inspector form DHCD.
- Certified 3B Inspector from an accepted Board (ICC or NCPCCI)
- Personal integrity and a demonstrated ability to maintain highest level of confidentiality
- Thorough knowledge of Office 365 Office Suite, EnerGov HTML5, and IG Inspect.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
Special Requirements:- Must possess a valid Driver's License
Background checks, which may include but are not limited to: Criminal History Check, Credit History Check, Education Verification Check, License Verification Check, and/or fingerprinting may be required as posted in the job advertisement.
Fire & Rescue Requirement: Effective October 2012, mandated by the Virginia State Board of Health 12VAC5-31-540, VA EMS Regulations require a criminal background check conducted by the Central Crime Records Exchange and the National Crime Information Center via Virginia State Police; and a driving record transcript from the individual's state Department of Motor Vehicles.
National Certification Program for Construction Code Inspectors (NCPCCI) or International Code Council (ICC)Fire Protection General Exam 3B must be successfully obtained within 18 months from the hire date.
Work Schedule:This is a 37.5 hours per week, full-time non-exempt position with working hours Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:00pm.
Starting Salary Range: $31.96-$45.42 per hour
