What Your Job Will Be Like

As a Computing Infrastructure Engineer at Sandia National Laboratories, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle management of multi-user information systems, including servers, storage, virtual and cloud infrastructures, and associated components. You will maintain system integrity to meet service levels, disaster recovery, business continuity, and security requirements. This role involves close collaboration with customers, suppliers, and domain experts across networking, software, and desktop teams to design, implement, and optimize hardware systems solutions. You will engage in technical research and development to drive innovation within the infrastructure and support mission-critical operations in a secure and dynamic environment.

Due to the nature of the work, selected aplicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range

$87,400 - $199,700

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to independently perform the job.
  • Experience in full lifecycle management of multi-user information systems, including installation, configuration, integration, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of servers and storage systems.
  • Strong proficiency with UNIX, Linux (RHEL 6/7/8), and Windows Server operating systems.
  • Solid understanding of hardware systems engineering, including system architectures, network infrastructures, and client-server principles.
  • Experience with scripting and programming languages, such as Bash, VBS, Perl, shell scripting, C, or C++.
  • Proven ability to perform hardware systems analysis, monitoring, repair, disaster recovery, software installations, OS and application upgrades, security patching, and performance tuning.


Qualifications We Desire

  • Knowledge of software development methodologies, source code control, application development tools, database design, and component integration.
  • Experience with backup and recovery solutions such as NetVault.
  • Familiarity with virtual technologies and cloud architectures.
  • Background in disaster recovery and business continuity planning.

About Our Team

Group 1380, Nuclear Facility Operations and Applied Nuclear Technologies (Technical Area - V), operates four unique nuclear facilities and conducts radiation effects research and analysis supporting the mission of Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) and the nation's interest. The operation of the Annular Core Research Reactor (ACRR), the Sandia Pulsed Reactor-Critical Experiments (SPR-CX), the Gamma Irradiation Facility (GIF) and the Auxiliary Hot Cell Facility (AHCF), as well as the Radiation Metrology Lab (RML) play a vital role in SNL's strategic mission. The Nuclear Quality and Requirements Department (1382) is responsible for managing the effective implementation of the elements of 10CFR830 Nuclear Safety Subpart A, Quality Assurance criteria across TA-V programs, policies, processes and procedures. The department also manages the TA-V Training, Requirements, Assurance, and Information Management programs for TA-V Nuclear Facility Operations.
