Full Job Description
The Composites Design Engineer will develop composite primary and secondary structure for an advanced narrowbody aircraft through conceptual and preliminary design. The role integrates structural design, preliminary analysis, material and process selection, joints, producibility, inspection, durability, and repair considerations. This position will be based onsite at our South Burlington, VT office location, our Raleigh, NC office. Remote candidates may be considered for a hybrid role, with monthly visits to South Burlington, VT for in person work.

How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation:
  • Develop composite structural concepts and detailed three-dimensional definition for skins, spars, ribs, frames, panels, control surfaces, fairings, and integrated joints
  • Perform laminate, sandwich, bonded-joint, bolted-joint, stability, and preliminary strength trades to guide structural configuration and sizing
  • Select material forms, processes, tooling approaches, design details, and inspection strategies consistent with production rate, quality, weight, cost, and schedule
  • Define composite-metallic interfaces, environmental protection, drainage, lightning-protection integration, damage-tolerance features, and repair provisions
  • Work with Stress, Structures Design, Loads, Materials and Processes, Manufacturing, Quality, NDT, Test, suppliers, and team counterparts
  • Support coupon, element, subcomponent, and full-scale test planning and translate results into design improvements
  • Create configuration-controlled CAD, drawings, specifications, trade studies, and design-review material

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • Five or more years of composite structural design or closely related aerospace product-development experience
  • Proficiency with CATIA, 3DEXPERIENCE, or a comparable CAD environment
  • Knowledge of prepreg, infusion, sandwich construction, bonded and bolted joints, composite failure modes, and manufacturing controls
  • Experience taking composite hardware through design, analysis, build, inspection, and test support
  • Must be a US Person to be considered for the role

Above and Beyond Qualifications:
  • Transport-aircraft wing, fuselage, empennage, control-surface, pylon, or nacelle composite experience
  • Experience with composite allowables, certification building-block tests, NDT, environmental durability, lightning protection, or structural repair
  • Experience supporting production introduction and supplier technical management

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

This role requires extended computer and CAD work and regular work in office laboratory composite-manufacturing, hangar, and test environments. Occasional travel and use of standard personal protective equipment may be required.
