Senior Communications Specialist

The Boeing Company is seeking a Senior Communications Specialist to join the Space, Intelligence & Weapon Systems (SI&WS) team supporting the Precision Engagement Systems (PES) subdivision. In this senior individual contributor role, you will serve as the primary communications lead to the PES sub-division VP and leadership team, owning the development and execution of the sub-division's strategic communications plan and partnering with the PES communications specialist on the nested program plans. You will shape and deliver communications that highlight Boeing's work in defensive capabilities and offensive weapon systems that serve and protect U.S. military customers and allies worldwide. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Huntsville, Alabama.

We're seeking a candidate who can convey clear, concise, and consistent messages across numerous communications channels and multimedia formats. You will collaborate with various stakeholders, including the SI&WS Senior Communications Manager and PES Communications Specialist, to effectively execute internal and external communication plans, ensuring that our initiatives are successfully communicated and understood.

To be successful, you will be a strong and strategic project manager, proactively seek out communications opportunities, establish yourself as a collaborative teammate, demonstrate exceptional writing and editing skills, and have strong experience with media relations, application of relevant communications tools and processes, and working with other functions and business partners as part of a geographically dispersed team.

The ideal candidate will possess strong writing, communication, content creation and project management skills, with a proven ability to turn complex technical information into engaging narratives.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead communications for the PES subdivision: develop, maintain, and execute the subdivision communications strategy and nested program communications plans (e.g., Cruise Missile Systems, Direct Attack), ensuring alignment with Precision Engagement Systems and Boeing Defense, Space & Security objectives.
  • Serve as the primary communications advisor to the assigned SI&WS subdivision VP and leadership team, and act as the main liaison with the SI&WS Senior Communications Manager and the PES communications specialist to ensure cohesive strategy and integrated execution.
  • Provide communications counsel and support to portfolio leaders, business development partners, and technical subject-matter experts; partner closely with Business Development, engineering, operations, HR, legal, and other stakeholders in a matrixed environment to ensure accurate, compliant, and effective communications.
  • Plan and drive proactive media relations and issue/crisis communications for PES priorities: pitching, media inquiry responses, media readiness and training for leaders and SMEs, and reactive support as needed.
  • Create, edit and deliver high-quality written and visual content across internal and external channels, including news releases, executive statements, messaging documents, feature stories, speechwriting, social and digital content, photo and video capture/editing, trade show materials, and employee communications.
  • Lead tactical execution of communications milestones and events defined in the communications plans: timing, distribution and approval workflows, leader messaging, and event support.
  • Build, lead and coordinate a network of communications partners and external resources (e.g., media relations lead, social, employee engagement, BD communications focal) to execute the subdivision plan efficiently.
  • Engage with government customers and external partners to inform and shape program positioning, narratives, and messaging as appropriate to program and portfolio objectives.
  • Maintain situational awareness of site communications work (Huntsville and related sites) and ensure alignment where efforts intersect with the PES portfolio.


Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • 10+ years of progressive communications experience (corporate communications, media relations, public affairs, marketing or related fields)
  • Experience leading comprehensive communications strategy and plans
  • Experience advising and partnering with senior business leaders (VP/Director level and above)
  • Experience leading cross-functional communications execution across complex, matrixed organizations
  • Experience writing, editing, and storytelling across formats (news releases, executive messaging, speeches, feature articles, social media, etc.)
  • Experience with media relations, proactive pitching, and handling media inquiries
  • Experience translating complex technical subject matter into clear, compelling narratives for varied audiences
  • Experience leading, mentoring, or coaching other communications professionals


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in communications, journalism, public relations, or related field
  • Experience in Aerospace, defense, or government
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, self-driven, collaborative team environment
  • Experience with multimedia skills, including video capture and editing, photography, and digital asset creation
