Job Description

The Senior Commissioning Manager independently provides commissioning program, project, and team leadership and implementation in a client facing position. Directs and administers the commissioning process for building HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing and similar systems, from concept design through functional testing of systems to post occupancy.

Leads and mentors commissioning direct reports, develops new clients, creates proposes to secure new work, and manages project finances. This position supports highly technical and complex renovation and new construction projects, including life science, healthcare, and data center facilities.

Chicago, Cleveland, Indianaplis, St. Louis, Nashville, Memphis or similar metropolitan areas.

Midwest city with access to a primary airport.

Occasional, regional travel to project sites.

When not performing work on site this is a work-from-home position if desired.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
  • Lead and coordinate the entire commissioning team including all stakeholders, for complex project teams and very technical systems.
  • Develop client relationships, create proposals, generate new business.
  • Manage execution of projects within the given scope and manage and project finances for profitability.
  • Lead and mentor direct commissioning reports, delegate and QC their tasks.
  • Verify that systems are designed, installed, and operate within the basis of design and specified criteria.
  • Review MEP systems design documents and sequences of operation for conformance.
  • Write details system checklists and functional performance operational tests to check each and every system point, mode, input, output, etc.
  • Conduct site walks and inspections and create site observation visit reports.
  • Direct onsite system testing and monitoring of complex and integrated systems and document results.
  • Track and proactively resolve issues with contractors, engineers, and owners.
  • Create technical reports and project deliverables with proper grammar and formatting to create professional deliverables.
  • Self-perform all tasks independently.


Qualifications
  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in engineering or relevant building science, plus 15 years of relevant experience. Equivalent levels of progressive industry experience can be considered in lieu of degree. Knowledge of MEP systems installation and operation required. Experience in life science, healthcare, and data center facilities strongly preferred.
  • Certificates and Licenses: Professional Engineer (PE) preferred. LEED AP and commissioning certification (such as CxA, CCP, or BCxP) preferred.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to provide efficient, timely, reliable and courteous service to customers. Ability to effectively present information using technical writing skills, including detailed document formatting.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills with ability to independently track many ongoing tasks and organize large amounts of project files and correspondence.
  • Financial Knowledge: Requires knowledge of financial terms and principles. Ability to manage project budgets, job costs, forecasting, project billing, and invoicing.
  • Reasoning: Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex construction documents and operation of building controls systems; address complex project team dynamics; and troubleshooting building system operation.
  • Software: Microsoft Word, including detailed formatting. Microsoft excel, including processing and analyzing large amounts of BAS trend data. Network file management. Ability to edit PDF documents. Ability to create formatted layouts preferred. Prior use of commissioning online software preferred.
