Full Job Description
*This position is open to multiple Burns & Wilcox branch offices across the US.* We are seeking an experienced Commercial Property Underwriter to join our E&S underwriting team. The ideal candidate has deep knowledge of the commercial property E&S market, strong analytical and relationship-building skills, and a proven ability to make sound risk decisions.  This is a hybrid position with a minimum 3 days in-office. Responsibilities
  • Evaluate, analyze, and underwrite diverse commercial property risks within established authority levels, ensuring adherence to Atain’s underwriting philosophy and standards.
  • Assess exposure, coverage requirements, risk characteristics, CAT model outputs, and financial data to develop appropriate pricing and terms.
  • Maintain a profitable and diversified portfolio by managing aggregation, monitoring performance, and adjusting underwriting strategies based on emerging trends and results.
  • Identify opportunities for growth while maintaining underwriting discipline to ensure long‑term profitability.
  • Develop, strengthen, and maintain productive relationships with wholesale broker partners across the country.
  • Negotiate pricing, coverage, and terms with brokers to achieve competitive yet profitable outcomes.
  • Deliver prompt, professional, and high‑quality service in a fast-paced environment, meeting or exceeding service standards and response expectations.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of commercial excess and surplus lines property underwriting experience.
  • Solid understanding of property coverage forms, risk assessment tools, and underwriting methodologies.
  • Experience with catastrophe-exposed business; familiarity with CAT modeling.
  • Track record of managing a profitable book of business and balancing portfolio goals.
  • Ability to travel 10-15%
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, and decision‑making skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, with proven success in broker relationship management.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment while maintaining exceptional service standards.
  • Bachelor’s degree; professional designations such as CPCU, AU, or ASLI are a plus.
