Full Job Description
Zensurance is seeking a Senior Commercial P&C Underwriter to join our Underwriting Team, where we leverage technology to empower our underwriters and deliver exceptional value to our brokers and insurance partners. This role reflects Zensurance's values, needing a passion and persistence for positive outcomes and excellent customer experiences that help us reach our goals.

Reporting to the Operational Underwriting Team Lead, your primary responsibilities will involve evaluating submissions and applications for new and existing policies, managing broker referrals, and collaborating on diverse initiatives crucial to the overall success of our portfolio. You'll also directly influence the development and competitiveness of our insurance products through your valuable insights on appetite and pricing.

This is a remote-first role within Canada. #LI-Remote

Responsibilities:

  • Underwrite and manage a book of business that spans a wide-range of segments including contractors, realty, hospitality, retail, professional risks (misc E&O & tech), and MedMal risks (beauticians, sports/fitness, healthcare).
  • Meet SLA, premium, and bind ratio targets while maintaining a disciplined underwriting approach.
  • Manage claim reviews on new and existing policies and provide your recommendation on pricing, loss mitigation, and overall viability of the account.
  • Contribute to operational efficiency, ensuring streamlined processes and data-driven decision-making.
  • Partner and collaborate with fellow Underwriters, Underwriting Specialists, and the Leadership Team to help shape the growth and profitability strategy for new and existing programs and appetite, including identifying and evaluating new program opportunities, developing underwriting guidelines/wordings/extensions, and evaluating current market offerings, pricing strategies, and trends that will help us to meet customer demands and expand our competitiveness in the marketplace.
  • Partner with the Insurance Analytics team to review and optimize Zensurance's binding authority programs.
  • Develop and strengthen relationships with Zensurance brokers, acting as a trusted partner in the marketplace.
  • Negotiate with carrier markets on terms and conditions that fall outside of our in-house authority.
  • Maintain data integrity and adhere to underwriting standards and practices in order to support all underwriting processes, minimize risk, ensure compliance, and help achieve team objectives.
  • Potential opportunity to assist with auditing of in-house policies to confirm adherence to underwriting guidelines and authorities.
  • Mentor and guide fellow team members, sharing your expertise and fostering their professional growth.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements:

  • 5+ years of commercial underwriting experience, with a strong background in property & casualty (P&C).
  • Experience with Errors & Omissions (E&O), or Medical Malpractice (MedMal) would be considered an asset.
  • CIP, CRM or FCIP designation is an asset.
  • Solid understanding of commercial wordings and pricing strategies.
  • Advanced skills with MS Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Experience with Google Workspace, Zoom, Slack, Salesforce, or similar office tools would be considered an asset.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Big picture thinking and solution-oriented mindset.
  • Able to communicate professionally and effectively with internal and external stakeholders, both verbally and written, and build strong relationships.
  • Able to effectively collaborate with team members, lead in group settings, and take ownership of projects as assigned.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion when handling sensitive data.


$80,000 - $95,000 a year

The salary range for this role is $80,000 to $95,000, not including the annual discretionary bonus and any additional performance-based incentives.

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees may also be eligible for performance-based case incentive awards.
