Job Summary

The Senior Commercial Electrical Estimator is responsible for leading the estimating process for commercial electrical construction projects and developing accurate, competitive, and comprehensive proposal packages for client turnover. This role will estimate projects up to $100MM, depending on project complexity, scope, and self-perform requirements.

The Senior Commercial Electrical Estimator will work closely with the Chief Estimator, Preconstruction, Project Management, Operations, vendors, subcontractors, and customers to develop competitive estimates, identify project risks, and ensure successful project turnover.

Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Lead estimates for commercial electrical construction projects with sizes and scopes up to $100MM, depending on complexity.
  • Develop detailed electrical estimates, including material, labor, equipment, subcontractor, and indirect costs.
  • Perform and validate detailed electrical quantity takeoffs using estimating software.
  • Review and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, scopes of work, contract documents, and project requirements.
  • Develop complete proposal packages, including pricing, clarifications, exclusions, alternates, and required submittals.
  • Develop conceptual and ROM estimates for prospective commercial opportunities.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, site walks, and customer meetings as required.
  • Develop pre-estimate checklists and opportunity/risk matrices based on project requirements.
  • Review RFIs and coordinate with internal teams, customers, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors to resolve estimating questions.
  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor pricing and ensure competitive coverage.
  • Lead bid review meetings and present estimate details, assumptions, risks, and opportunities.
  • Develop project schedules, resource-loading information, and cash flow projections when required.
  • Identify potential project risks and develop appropriate contingencies and mitigation strategies.
  • Partner with Project Management and Operations to ensure estimates reflect practical and efficient project execution.
  • Support negotiations, post-bid reviews, and customer presentations as needed.
  • Participate in project turnover meetings and transfer complete estimating information to the Operations team upon award.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to less-experienced estimators and estimating team members.
  • Continuously improve estimating processes, procedures, tools, and best practices.

Minimum Qualifications

Required:
  • Minimum of 7+ years of commercial electrical construction estimating experience, with demonstrated experience leading complex estimates.
  • Strong understanding of commercial electrical construction, including electrical systems, material, labor, subcontractor pricing, and project execution.
  • Experience with estimating software such as Accubid, Bluebeam, McCormick, Trimble, or similar platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, with experience developing and tracking project estimates and schedules.
  • Excellent written, verbal, organizational, analytical, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience estimating commercial projects valued at $10MM+.
  • Experience with design-build and design-assist projects.
  • Experience with electrical estimating for commercial buildings, healthcare, government, higher education, hospitality, retail, office, or other large-scale commercial facilities.
  • Experience mentoring junior estimators or leading estimating teams.
  • Strong understanding of commercial electrical codes, construction methods, and industry standards.
  • Established relationships with electrical subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers.
  • Experience with negotiated, hard-bid, design-build, and competitive bid projects.

Work Environment:

Colorado Pay Range

$90,000-$120,000 USD
