Who are we looking for?

In response to continued growth within our Water & Wastewater Treatment business, our team in Syracuse, NY is seeking an experienced Senior Civil Engineer to help support the development and expansion of our Water Business across Central New York and beyond. In this role, you'll provide senior-level technical expertise to support the successful delivery of water and wastewater treatment and infrastructure projects. Working closely with project managers and multidisciplinary teams, you'll lead technical evaluations and help develop high-quality reports, technical memoranda, designs, and other key deliverables. You'll coordinate technical activities, mentor staff, and help keep project milestones, budgets, and schedules on track while delivering practical solutions for our clients.

Beyond project delivery, you'll have the opportunity to play an important role in business development, marketing strategies, and client engagement; with opportunities to shape win strategies and pricing for new work. This position also offers the chance to mentor project team members and collaborate with project team leaders across the region. Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:
  • Client & Customer Management (External): Manage relationships with small clients while also helping senior colleagues manage relationships with larger key clients and customers.
  • Community of Practice Management: Participate actively in a community of practice in a defined area of expertise or consulting to build own expertise.
  • Contract Management: Deliver required outcomes by managing day-to-day relationships with contract service providers while working within an established contract management plan.
  • Engineering Solutions Design: Design engineering solutions and the associated validation process to enable the realization of a design brief (for example, in terms of functionality, performance, aesthetics, and cost) that conform to organizational and/or regulatory standards.
  • Feasibility Studies: Conduct complex feasibility studies from a technological and organizational perspective and document findings to complete cost-benefit analysis on implementing changes to business processes, products, or business unit structure.
  • Health, Safety, and Environment: Follow the organization's health, safety, and environment (HSE) policies, procedures, and mandatory instructions to identify and mitigate environmental risks and risks to the well-being of self and others in the workplace. Identify patterns of risky behavior within the team and take appropriate action to resolve them, escalating serious issues as appropriate.
  • Improvement/Innovation: Identify shortcomings in existing processes, systems, and procedures, and use established change management programs to address them.
  • Personal Capability Building: Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching; gain or maintain external professional accreditation, where relevant, to improve performance and fulfill personal potential. Maintain an in-depth understanding of technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
  • Project Management: Deliver small- or medium-scale projects while working within an established program management plan.
  • Request for Bid Solicitation/Proposal/Tender Response: Gather information and resources, draft and complete proposals, and fulfill all process requirements (in terms of deadlines, documentation, etc.) in response to bid solicitations, request for proposal, and request for tender to create the best chance of being awarded the contract.
  • Technical Developments Recommendation: Discuss and recommend more complex or innovative technical developments to improve the quality of the used technology, such as systems, processes, infrastructure, installations, and machines.

What you'll bring to the team:
  • Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or a related field of study with a water/wastewater focus
  • Professional Engineering license (New York preferred)
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the planning, design and construction of water/wastewater infrastructure and treatment facilities (some time spent serving clients in Central New York and the surrounding area preferred)
  • Experience with business development, proposal preparation, and marketing skills preferred

Salary range: $94,000-$156,750 based on experience and location
